Tensioning/releasing of drive belt for alternator (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)

Special tools required:

Preliminary work needed:

Remove front right WHEEL ARCH COVER .
Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION
Remove THRUST FIELD .

If necessary, carry out work with aid of a second person!

Removal:

Release expansion rivet (1).

Release screw (2).

Remove partition wall (3).

Loosen screws (1).

Unclip line (2).

Injury hazard when tensioning or releasing the drive belt.

Release belt tensioner (1) on screw (2) in arrow direction (refer to following operations).

Special tool 2 365 291 to relieve belt tensioner.

Position special tool 2 365 291 on the idler pulley of the belt tensioner.

Unclip fuel lines on holder (1).

Relieve belt tensioner with special tool 2 365 291 in arrow direction.

Operation needs to be carried out by a second person helping.

Secure belt tensioner (1) in place with special tool 11 0 390.

NOTE: If the special tool 11 0 390 cannot be mounted, the engine must be pushed slightly (max. 3 mm) at the engine mount in the direction of the arrow using the mounting lever (1).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque: 11 00 2AZ .

Clip in line (2).

Install partition wall (3).

Tighten screw (2).

Attach expanding rivet (1).

Required follow-up work:

Install THRUST FIELD .
Install front UNDERBODY PROTECTION
Install front right WHEEL ARCH COVER .
