65 77 016 Removing and installing airbag control unit

NOTE:

Special Tools Required: 

WARNING: Note airbag safety instructions! Refer to AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury. Disconnect battery negative lead and cover. Refer to 12 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY . Check system after installation.

Vehicle With Rear Compartment Fan: 

Remove complete rear compartment fan. Refer to 64 11 772 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING THE REAR FAN COMPLETELY .

Release screws (1) and remove cover (2).

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Release nuts (2) and lift off airbag control unit (3).

Installation: 

Ensure grounding cable (4) is correctly laid.

Tightening torque, (8.8 N.m.).

Vehicle Without Rear Compartment Fan: 

Remove fresh air grill in footwell. Refer to 64 22 190 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRESH-AIR GRILL IN REAR OF CAR .

Unclip carpet on left and right. Refer to 51 16 204 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR CUP HOLDER .

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Release nuts (2) with special tool 11 4 190.

Raise airbag control unit (3) slightly and pull out.

Installation: 

Ensure grounding cable is correctly laid.

Observe tightening torque, (8.8 N.m.).
