51 44 011 Removing and installing (replacing) headlining (with panorama glass roof)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW 328i xDrive, 2016 BMW 328d xDrive, 2015 BMW 328i xDrive, 2015 BMW 328d xDrive, and 2014 BMW 328i xDrive. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove TRIM PANEL FOR ROOF PILLAR AT FRONT (A-pillar) left/right
Remove SUN VISOR AND COUNTER SUPPORT left/right
Remove VANITY MIRROR LIGHT left/right
Remove MICROPHONE left/right
Open slide/tilt sunroof at front
Remove ROOF SWITCH CLUSTER
Remove all GRAB HANDLES
Remove INTERIOR ROOF LIGHTS AT REAR
Remove TRIM PANEL FOR DOOR POST AT TOP (B-pillar) left/right
Remove TRIM PANEL FOR ROOF PILLAR AT REAR (C-pillar) left/right
Remove TRIM PANEL FOR D-PILLAR left/right
Remove load area net
Remove backrest for rear seat on passenger's side. See 52 26 011 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING BACKREST FOR LEFT REAR SEAT or 52 26 012 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING BACKREST FOR RIGHT REAR SEAT .
Release edge protection on all doors in the headlining area
Release tailgate gasket halfway

Version with load area net mounts:

Remove all load area net mounts (3).

Open protective cap (1).

Release screws (2) and remove load area net mounts (3).

Tightening torque: 51 47 4AZ .

Attention!

Headlining tends to kink between the B and C-pillars.

The following tasks must be carried out with a second person assisting:

Support the headlining at front/rear.

Release expanding rivets (1).

Unclip headlining (3) at clip (2).

Installation note:

Replace clip (2)

Adjust backrest of driver's and front passenger seat all the way back.

Support headlining (1) at front.

Unclip headlining (1) in marked side area in downward direction (2).

Carefully pull headlining (1) forward until headlining (1) is fed out of remaining clips (2).

Pull down headlining (1).

Installation note:

Unclip rear clips (2) from roof frame.

If necessary, replace faulty clips (2).

If removing completely: Maneuver headlining out by way of the tailgate.

Installation note:

Installation sequence:

Attach headlining to the clips at front and rear
Screw down front headlining
Install grab handles at front first, then at rear
Screw down sun visors and counter supports
Secure edge protection to headlining
Fix tailgate gasket on headlining
Add final details to vehicle
