51 16 045 Removing and installing or replacing retaining ring on left or right exterior mirror

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove DRIVE UNIT FOR EXTERIOR MIRROR

Version with lane change warning only:

Remove protective cap from exterior mirror. See 51 16 041 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING COVER CAP ON LEFT OR RIGHT EXTERIOR MIRROR .

Version with lane change warning only:

Unlock plug connection (1) for optical signal transmitter and disconnect.

Release screws (1) from circlip (2).

Installation note:

Make sure retaining ring (2) is correctly seated.

Fold exterior mirror forwards.

Unlock latch mechanisms (1) between protective cap (2) and retaining ring (3) using special tool 00 9 317 .

Feed out retaining ring (3) to the rear.
