64 52 524 Removing and installing/replacing A/C system compressor (N74): Notes
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!
Follow safety precautions when handling refrigerant. See safety instructions for HANDLING R 134A REFRIGERANT , HANDLING TETRAFLUORETHANE REFRIGERANT R134A , and HANDLING REFRIGERANT OIL .
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with NOTES on replacing compressor.
Follow INSTRUCTIONS for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replace DESICCANT INSERT for A/C system.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- DRAIN OFF AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
- Remove DRIVE BELT FOR ALTERNATOR
- Remove air conditioning COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT
Up to build date 07/2012:
- Remove hydraulic steering gear. See HYDRAULIC STEERING GEAR or ACTIVE FRONT STEERING HYDRAULIC STEERING GEAR .
Version from 07/2012:
- Remove the electrical steering box. See ELECTRIC STEERING BOX (EPS) or ELECTRICAL STEERING BOX ACTIVE STEERING .
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Loosen screw (2).
(Observe instructions for releasing the screw (2) in the work step below!)
Release screws (3) and (5).
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ .
Remove air conditioning compressor (6) holder (4).
Lower the compressor (6).
Installation note:
Place holder (4) on compressor and secure with screw (2).
Tighten screws (5) and (6).
Place tool (1) with extension and joint in the front bumper area as illustrated.
Release screw.
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .
Remove low pressure line connection (2).
Feed out compressor (3) along with high pressure line.
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
