17 00 005 Draining and adding coolant (N52/ N52K/ N51/ N53)

WARNING: Danger of scalding!

These tasks on the cooling system should only be carried out on an engine that has cooled down!

IMPORTANT: Lifetime coolant filling:

If removing radiator, oil-water heat exchanger or transmission oil cooler, do not reuse drained coolant!

Installation:

Use only recommended coolant for Radiator Coolant and Transmission Cooling Oil

Observe Mixture Ratio (antifreeze/water).

Recycling

Catch and dispose of drained coolant.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Follow instructions for Working On Cooling System
Remove front Underbody Protection

Draining coolant:

Open cap (1) on coolant expansion tank (2).

Installation:

Close cap (1) until the arrow marks line up.

Unlock lugs (1) on front axle carrier and remove radiator cover (2) in direction of arrow.

Open drain plugs (1) on radiator at bottom.

Drain, catch and dispose off coolant.

Installation:

Replace sealing rings.

For tightening torque refer to 17 11 2AZ in 17 11 RADIATOR AND MOUNTING PARTS .

Unfasten and detach coolant hose (1) from thermostat housing.

Drain, catch and dispose off coolant.

Adding coolant:

Use only recommended Coolant.

Installation:

Observe venting instructions without fail.

Fill And Vent Cooling System.

Check Cooling System For Leaks.
