Test X: Speed Control Indicator Never/Always On

  1. Check speed control indicator miniature bulb. Turn key OFF. Remove the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove the speed control indicator miniature bulb. Measure the continuity between the terminals of the speed control indicator miniature bulb. Does continuity exist? If yes, reconnect instrument cluster and go to next step. If no, replace the speed control indicator miniature bulb.
  2. Check speed control amplifier signal. Access the speed control amplifier. Measure the voltage on the Red/Yellow wire at the speed control module connector with the connector connected. Drive the vehicle. Turn the speed control actuator switch on. Accelerate the vehicle to over 48 km/h (30 mph). Depress the COAST/SET switch. Turn the speed control switch off. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the speed control set, and less than 1 volt with the speed control off? If yes, go to next step. If no, see CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS -- VILLAGER article.
  3. Check wire between instrument cluster and speed control amplifier. Turn key OFF. Locate and disconnect the speed control amplifier connector. Locate and disconnect the instrument cluster connector C266. Measure the resistance of the Red/Yellow wire between the instrument cluster connector C266 and the speed control amplifier connector. Measure the resistance of the Red/Yellow wire between the instrument cluster connector C266 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the speed control amplifier and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground? If yes, replace the instrument cluster printed circuit. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, service Red/Yellow wire.
