Water Temperature Indicator Sender Unit

NOTE: Water temperature indicator sensor is also known as the coolant temperature sensor. This is NOT the same sensor used by the PCM.
  1. Let the engine cool.
  2. Disconnect the water temperature indicator sender unit connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between the terminal of the water temperature indicator sender unit and ground.
  4. Start the engine.
  5. Verify the resistances shown in the chart as the engine warms up. See WATER TEMPERATURE INDICATOR SENDER UNIT RESISTANCE  table.
  6. If the resistances are not as specified, replace the water temperature indicator sender unit. See If the resistances are OK, return to symptom test.
