Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove fan unit.   AR20.40-P-5050MFD
2 Attach radiator guard plate.    
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS     WF58.50-P-0110-01A
3 Remove inerting line from catalytic converter (3) and place to one side. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code 2U8 (Alternative refrigerant)
NOTES
Do not crush or kink inerting line or subject it to tension.
This will result in damage to the inerting line and can impair its functional capability.

4 Remove heat shield from exhaust gas turbocharger.   AR09.40-P-6045MFC
5.1 Remove nuts (2) from catalytic converter (3). Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247
up to model year 2021
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Clamp/nut, front exhaust system to exhaust gas turbocharger
*BA49.10-P-1001-02Q 
5.2 Open clamp (19). Engine 260 in model 177, 247
as of model year 2022
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace clamp (19).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Clamp, catalytic converter to turbocharger

6 Unscrew screws (5) and remove holder (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, upper front exhaust system holder to lifting eye/exhaust system *BA49.10-P-1002-02Q 
7 Remove oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter.   AR07.04-P-0086MFC
8 Release, disconnect electrical connector of lambda sensor downstream of catalytic converter and expose electrical wiring harness.   AR07.04-P-0085MFC
9 Remove bottom cover (6) from bumper.    
10 Remove electrical wiring harness at alternator. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code B01 (48V technology) AR15.40-P-5060MFA

11 Remove heat shield (18). Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247
with code B01 (48V technology)
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heat shield to engine carrier/crankcase/oil pan/cylinder head

12 Expose engine wiring harness (7) on connecting carrier (8) and mounting support (arrows). SPECIAL TOOL Dismantling tool Fig 1
13 Remove screws (9) on left and right of connecting carrier (8) and remove connecting carrier (8). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that rubber mounts on cooler and washer fluid reservoir are seated correctly.
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, connecting carrier to front axle carrier/radiator support

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, radiator support to mounting support *BA62.30-P-1004-02O 
14 Release and disconnect electrical connector of transmission oil cooling coolant circulation pump (M13/7).    
15 Unclip coolant hose (11) from refrigerant compressor and brackets (13) of transmission oil cooling coolant circulation pump (M13/7). SPECIAL TOOL Dismantling tool Fig 1
16 Remove screws (12) of holders (13) of transmission oil cooling coolant circulation pump (M13/7).    
17 Place transmission oil cooling coolant circulation pump (M13/7) to one side together with engine wiring harness (7) and fix in place.    
18 Remove right front axle shaft.   AR33.30-P-0620MFA
19 Remove heat shield of front axle drive shaft.   AR49.00-P-1000-05MFC 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heat shield to engine carrier/crankcase/oil pan/cylinder head *BA22.10-P-1002-02E 
20 Remove screws (14) at connection between catalytic converter (3) and exhaust system. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Clamp, rear exhaust system to center exhaust system *BA49.10-P-1008-02Q 
21 Remove screws (15) at rear holder (16) on oil pan and remove rear holder (16). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, lower holder for front exhaust system to oil pan/exhaust system *BA49.10-P-1005-02Q 
22 Remove screws (17) at front of crankcase. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Stud bolt/bolt, front exhaust system to crankcase *BA49.10-P-1003-02Q 
23 Remove catalytic converter (3) downwards. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install catalytic converter (3) such that it is free of tension.
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seal.
 
24 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
25 Check installation position and unobstructed movement of exhaust system and correct if necessary.    
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
26 Perform engine test run and check exhaust system for leak tightness in area of catalytic converter (3) while doing so.
