REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.    
2 Put transmission into neutral position.    
3 Release parking brake.    
4 Remove exhaust system. Model 257 with engine 264 AR49.10-P-7142MRH
    Model 257 with engine 256 AR49.10-P-7142MSA
5 Remove differential pressure sensor. Model 257 with engine 264
with code 598 (Gasoline particulate filter (OPF) with sensor system)
 
      AR07.04-P-0025MRH
6 Remove all heat shields under propeller shaft (1).    
7 Remove front reinforcement (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, reinforcement under seat to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1005-01L 
8 Remove center reinforcement (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, center reinforcement to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1003-01L 
9 Mark propeller shaft (1). IMPORTANT In order to be able to reproduce the factory installation position when installing, apply a color marking identifying the position of the propeller shaft (1) relative to the flanges on the transmission and rear-axle differential.  
10 Mark propeller shaft intermediate bearing (5). IMPORTANT In order to be able to reproduce the factory installation position when installing, make colored markings of the position of the propeller shaft intermediate bearing (5) relative to the frame floor assembly.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe marking.
 
11 Loosen screws on propeller shaft intermediate bearing (5). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Tighten screws securely only after the propeller shaft (1) has been securely fitted to the transmission and rear axle differential.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, propeller shaft intermediate bearing to frame floor assembly *BA41.40-P-1001-01H 
12 Remove flex disks (6) from transmission and rear axle differential.   AR41.10-P-0040-01MSA 
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOL Drift for releasing the fitting sleeves in the flexible couplings   WF58.50-P-4110-01A
    IMPORTANT Helper required.
IMPORTANT The flex disks (6) remain on the propeller shaft (1).
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Flexible coupling to transmission/rear axle differential or propeller shaft *BA41.10-P-1001-01M

13 Remove screws from propeller shaft intermediate bearing (5) and guide out propeller shaft (1) towards the rear. INSTALLATION NOTES Screw in screws loosely and tighten only after the flex disks (6) have been tightened at the transmission and rear axle differential.
Vibrations in the drive train and damage may otherwise occur.
NOTES
Make sure that the propeller shaft halves do not come apart at the slide joints.
Otherwise damage will occur.
 
INSPECT Check     
14 Check propeller shaft intermediate bearing (5) for wear and damage. If problems exist,

replace propeller shaft intermediate bearing (5).
 
      AR41.10-P-0100MSA 
15 Check pilot bushings for wear and damage. If problems exist,

Replace pilot bushings.
 
      AR41.10-P-0250MSA 
16 Check flex disks (6) for wear and damage.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP41.10-P-4152EW 
    If problems exist,

replace respective flex disk (6).
 
17 Install in the reverse order.
