Remove/Install Propeller Shaft - AR41.10-P-0050MSC

Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.    
2 Put transmission into neutral position.    
3 Release parking brake.    
4 Remove exhaust system. Model 167 with engine 176, 177 AR49.10-P-7142MNO
    Model 167 with engine 264 AR49.10-P-7142MRK
    Model 167 with engine 256.9 AR49.10-P-7142MSC
    Model 167 with engine 274.9 AR49.10-P-7283MRM
5 Remove rear left and right underfloor paneling   AR61.30-P-1001ME
6 Remove holder of exhaust system from reinforcement (2). Model 167 with engine 256.9, 264, 274  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 167 with engine 256.9, 264Bolt, center reinforcement to frame floor assembly *BA49.10-P-1018-02P 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 167 with engine 274Bolt, center reinforcement/center exhaust system holder to frame floor assembly *BA49.10-P-1017-02I 
7 Remove all heat shields in area of propeller shaft (1).    
8 Remove reinforcement (2). Model 167 with engine 256.9, 264, 274  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 167 with engine 256.9, 264Bolt, center reinforcement to frame floor assembly *BA49.10-P-1018-02P 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 167 with engine 274Bolt, center reinforcement/center exhaust system holder to frame floor assembly *BA49.10-P-1017-02I 
9 Mark propeller shaft (1) relative to flanges at transfer case and rear axle differential. IMPORTANT In order when installing to be able to reproduce the installation position used by the plant.  
10 Mark propeller shaft intermediate bearing (3) relative to frame floor assembly. IMPORTANT In order when installing to be able to reproduce the installation position used by the plant.  
11 Loosen screws on propeller shaft intermediate bearing (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, propeller shaft intermediate bearing to frame floor assembly *BA41.40-P-1001-01C 
12 Remove propeller shaft (1) from transfer case or adapter housing. Tightening procedure for rear propeller shaft to transfer case AR41.10-P-0050-17MSC 
    INSTALLATION NOTES
Observe tightening procedure and markings applied during removal.
Otherwise noise development and vibrations will occur.
 
    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking screw/bolt of propeller shaft a transfer case/adapter housing (to rear axle) *BA41.10-P-1001-01F 
    SPECIAL TOOL Counterholder Fig 2
13 Remove flex disk (4) from rear axle differential   AR41.10-P-0040-02MSC 
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Drift for releasing the fitting sleeves in the flexible couplings   WF58.50-P-4110-01A
    INSTALLATION NOTES
Observe the markings made during removal. Otherwise noise development and vibrations will occur.
 
    IMPORTANT The flex disk (4) remains on the propeller shaft (1).  
    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking screw/bolt on rear propeller shaft/rear axle differential *BA41.10-P-1002-01F

14 Unscrew screws from propeller shaft intermediate bearing (3) and remove propeller shaft (1). INSTALLATION NOTES
Tighten screws lightly by hand and secure only after the propeller shaft (1) is secured to the transfer case and the flex disk (4) is secured to the rear axle differential.
Observe the markings made during removal. Vibrations in the drive train and damage may otherwise occur.
 
    NOTES
Make sure that the propeller shaft halves do not fall apart.
Otherwise damage will occur.
 
INSPECT Check     
15 Check propeller shaft intermediate bearing (3) for damage and wear. If problems exist,

replace drive shaft (1).
 
16 Check pilot bushings for wear and damage. If problems exist,

replace drive shaft (1).
 
17 Check flex disk (4) for damage and wear.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP41.10-P-4152B 
    If problems exist,

Replace flex disk (4).
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking screw/bolt on rear propeller shaft/rear axle differential *BA41.10-P-1002-01F

18 Install in the reverse order.
