Code EX9 is added automatically with no costs involved
for vehicles with code EJ6 (COMAND APS) or with code EJ7 (COMAND APS with DVD changer). On model 447 up to production month 09/19 with code EA2 (COMAND Online with DVD changer, 6-disk) or with code EJ9 (COMAND Online) code EX9 (3 year free-of-charge map updates) is the series production configuration.
Code EX9 (3 year free-of-charge map updates) is also the series production configuration on model 470 up to production month 07/19 with code EJ9 (COMAND Online), as well as models 907 and 910 with code E1C (Audio 25) or code E3M (MBUX multimedia system with 7 inch touchscreen) in combination with code E1E (Navigation) or code EJ9 (COMAND Online) or code E4M (MBUX multimedia system with 10.25 inch touchscreen).
The free map update is valid for 3 years from the vehicle's initial registration. The map update can be carried out at official Mercedes-Benz workshops during a workshop visit. For new vehicle deliveries the map release level is checked and updated if necessary, to ensure that the customer always has the latest map data after transport and any idle times.
Update media
The necessary update media will be made available to the workshops as from November 2015 through an automatic push-dispatch process to the respective workshop managers free-of-charge (for countries outside Europe via MPC/GD).
Update products are provided on DVD for NTG 2.5 in 5 versions. Update products are shipped on USB stick for NTG 5 in 2 versions. The media can also be ordered through the usual order processes in the Global Logistics Center (GLC) for a fee.
Please note that the prices of the update media (DVD, USB) can vary in this instance, depending on the NTG and the market involved.
Subsequent invoicing of previously-ordered and chargeable update media is not possible.
Update media stay in the workshop and must not be handed over to the customer after a map update. The media can be used for any number of update procedures. The corresponding map licenses for 3 years from the initial registration of the vehicle is already paid for by the customer with the purchase of COMAND. The map licenses are valid exclusively for the original destination market for the vehicle and they cannot be transferred to any additional markets.
For countries not in the EU, the update media are, with a few exceptions, shipped to the respective markets and from there distributed further to the dealers.
COMAND Download Manager (model 907)
The above-mentioned distribution of update media to the worldwide markets through push dispatch will gradually be replaced by digital distribution via the Download Manager COMAND starting in October 2017. For further information, see SI82.85-S-0035A.
Map update before new vehicle delivery
Inspection of the map update, or delivery map version for new vehicle delivery, is listed on the delivery inspection sheet.
Map update during service visit
During a service visit, all vehicles are checked for entitlement for code EX9 and, depending on the map version, a map update is carried out as part of the service work.
A corresponding test position is listed on the maintenance sheet under additional operations, and it must be accordingly selected by the Service Advisor.
Map update between service visits
Customers can have their Mercedes-Benz Partner check for the latest map version on their vehicle at any time.
If a new map version is available, the customer can have the map update performed by a Mercedes-Benz partner.
The order preparation, execution, documentation and cost settlement occur analogously to the map update, during the service visit. How to read out the map versions is described in AP82.85-S-8251 E (model 447, 470, 907/910).
Work instructions
The sequence described in document AP82.85-S-8252E (model 907) must be observed.
The update media are only intended for internal workshop use!
For NTG 2.5 devices, the map update lasts approx. 90 min.
For NTG 5 devices, the map update lasts approx. 60 min.
Settlement process
The scope of work for the map update can be billed through the usual warranty channels under damage code 8204X 01.
The following operation items are applicable:
- 82 9900 Update map data for navigation system,
- 54 0650 Maintain on-board electrical system voltage (for testing and diagnosis work).
