Service Information: Testing Method For Additional Battery For Park Pawl Emergency Shift Mode - Si54.10-S-0050A
Model 907
with code G42 (7G-TRONIC PLUS)
Model 907
with code G43 (9G-TRONIC)
We would hereby like to inform you that the condition of the auxiliary battery for the park pawl emergency shift mode (Emergency-P battery (G1/13) ) may not be checked using the Midtronics battery test device (000 588 02 19 00) for the above-mentioned vehicles.
Procedure for checking Emergency-P battery (G1/13) for condition (not corresponding safety information at all times):
- Remove Emergency-P battery (G1/13) (see AR54.10-D-0120TSR for model 907).
- Visually inspect Emergency-P battery (G1/13) for external leaks or damage. For leaks or damage the Emergency-P battery (G1/13) must be replaced and properly disposed of.
- Measure battery voltage of Emergency-P battery (G1/13) and recharge, if necessary.
- Fill out test sheet (see OF54.10-P-3000-02B ). Area for Midtronics test need not be filled out.
- Install new or old Emergency-P battery (G1/13) (see AR54.10-D-0120TSR
for model 907).
The measured battery voltage of the Emergency-P battery (G1/13) must be at least 12.8 V under no load.
- If the measured voltage under no load is at least 11.5 V, the Emergency-P battery (G1/13) must be recharged.
- Recharging with Emergency-P battery (G1/13) in removed state with constant, limited charging voltage Umax = 13.8 V for at least 2.5 hours.
- Recharging with Emergency-P battery (G1/13) in installed state via the external charging terminal point at a minimum voltage of 14 volts for at least 5.0 hours.
- If the measured voltage under no load is below 11.5 V, the Emergency-P battery (G1/13) may no longer be charged and must be disposed of properly.
Tool
The parts to be used for recharging are located in the
electrical connection kit 220 589 00 99 00.
The following parts are required:
- 2x adapter line: 220 589 00 99 12 (red and black)
- 2x measuring line: 220 589 00 99 20 (red and black)
Connect the adapter or connection lines to the Emergency-P battery (G1/13) and the charger:
- Red line to positive terminal +
- Black line to negative terminal -

Check auxiliary battery for park pawl emergency shift mode (battery removed)
Terminal stamp: Batt. part no.: Test code:
Fill out area for test code with "EMERGENCY-P BATTERY".
In order to ensure maximum service life of a new Emergency-P battery (G1/13) and to prevent consequential damage, the additional battery must be charged before being installed in the vehicle.
The procedure given in the article WR 04-02-020 from the Extended Warranty Manual Retail (EWMR) or from the Warranty Manual Wholesale (WMW) must be observed when submitting a warranty and goodwill claim.
Practical example
- Data determined:
Terminal stamp ... 150818AB
Batt. part no. ... N 000000 004039
Test code
- On the repair order:
54 1229 Check condition of additional battery for park pawl emergency shift
Terminal stamp: ..150818AB ...
Batt. part no.:.. N 000000 004039 ...
Test code: EMERGENCY-P BATTERY
- On the W & G order in the message field:
P-150818AB ET- N 000000 004039
Code EMERGENCY-P BATTERY
The manufacture date (for example: 150818AB) of the Emergency-P battery (G1/13) is not printed on the terminal, but rather on the housing. The imprint of the manufacture date for the Emergency-P battery (G1/13) is located on the upper side of the housing.
For the "Battery fault backup " display message in the instrument cluster, the Emergency-P battery (G1/2) must be checked and, if necessary, recharged (see AR54.10-D-1130TS for model 907) or replaced. A direct replacement of the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit (N10) is not permissible in this case.
Service information SI54.10-N-0003A must also be observed.
