DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

  Preparatory activity     
1 Lift vehicle with vehicle lift.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-P-1006A
INSPECT Check     
2 Check underfloor paneling for evidence of damage caused by driving over obstacles or bottoming. If the underfloor paneling exhibits any signs of damage,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
REMOVING Remove     
3 Remove lower engine compartment lining (1).    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 except code M016 (Uprated engine)

INSPECT Check     
4 Assess the wheel bearings by firmly tugging, pushing and turning at the wheels. If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
5 Check front axle carrier (17) for cracks, deformation and corrosion. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
6 Check the transverse control arms (2) for cracks, deformation and corrosion. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
7 Check transverse control arm elastomer bearings (3) for cracks, deformation and wear, then also check for play by firmly tugging and pushing. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
8 Check supporting joint boots (4) for proper condition, leak tightness and correct seating. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
9 Check engine stabilizer mount (5) for cracks, deformation and wear then also check for play by firmly pulling and pushing. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
10 Check torsion bar linkage (6) for cracks, deformation and corrosion. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
11 Check torsion bar linkage joint sleeves (7) for condition, leak tightness and correct seating. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
12 Check the torsion bar linkage joint sleeves for play by pulling and pushing firmly on the torsion bar linkage (6). If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
13 Check stabilizer (8) for cracks, deformation and corrosion. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
14 Check stabilizer bushings (11) for cracks, deformation and wear then check stabilizer bar (8) for play by firmly pulling and pushing. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
15 Check supporting joints (18) for play by pushing and pulling firmly on control arm (2). If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
16 Check drive shafts (9) for cracks, deformation, corrosion then check for play by firmly pushing and pulling. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
17 Check outer drive shaft boots (12) for condition, leak tightness and correct seating. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
18 Check inner drive shaft boots (13) for condition, leak tightness and correct seating. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
19 Check clamps (14) for cracks, deformation, corrosion and correct seating. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
20 Check level sensor linkage (15) for correct seating, cracks, deformation, corrosion and play. Vehicle with level sensor linkages (15).
IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
INSTALLING Install     
21 Install lower engine compartment lining (1).    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260
except code M016 (Uprated engine)
