REMOVING Remove     
1 Move brakepads (1) of rear axle into assembly position.   AR42.10-P-1710-02MFA 
    NOTES Do not depress the service brake during "Move to assembly position". Otherwise, the spindle in the brake caliper (3) can be damaged.  
2 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
3 Remove cover above brake fluid expansion reservoir.    
4 Clean area around cap on brake fluid expansion reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
5 Unscrew cap on brake fluid expansion reservoir and extract some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.  
6 Remove rear wheel and tire assemblies.   AR40.10-P-1102MFA
7 Unclip electric line (7) from holder (6).    
8 Remove bolts (2)    
9 Remove brake caliper (3) from brake caliper support (4) and fasten brake caliper (3) to vehicle in unstressed condition to relieve brake hose (5) and electric line (7). NOTES Do not subject the brake hose (5) and electric line (7) to tension and do not crush or kink them.
Otherwise the brake hose (5) and electric line (7) will be damaged.
IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connector from left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2).
IMPORTANT Do not remove brake hose (5).		  
10 Remove brakepads (1) from brake caliper support (4).    
11 Remove spring steel sheets (8) from brake caliper support (4).    
  Check     
12 Check brakepads (1) for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 243 AP42.10-P-4252K
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 247 AP42.10-P-4252MFB 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 177 AP42.10-P-4252MFA
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 118
If there is a problem,
↓
Replace brake linings (1) in sets.		 AP42.10-P-4252CLA
13 Check brake disks for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 243 AP42.10-P-4256C
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 118, 177, 247
IMPORTANT Only install brake disks approved by
Mercedes-Benz.
If there is a problem,
↓
Replace brake disks in sets.		 AP42.10-P-4256EW 
      AR42.10-P-0220MFA 
14 Check brake caliper (3) with detachable parts for damage. If there is a problem,
Replace corresponding components.		  
      AR42.10-P-0080MFA 
15 Check brake caliper support (4) and sliding bolts for damage and ease of movement. If there is a problem,
Replace corresponding components.		  
      AR42.10-P-0080MFA 
CLEAN Clean     
16 Clean contact surfaces of brakepads (1) on brake caliper (3) and on brake caliper support (4). NOTES Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise, the dust boot (13), the brake caliper (3) or the brake caliper support (4) may be damaged.
IMPORTANT Remove adhesive residue on contact surfaces of brake caliper (3) completely.		  
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
INSTALLING Install     
17 Press back brake piston using pusher tool (01). If brake caliper (3) is reused.  
    SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device If the brake piston is sluggish.
↓
Replace brake caliper (3).		 Fig 2

18 Push spring steel sheets (8) centrally onto upper and lower surfaces into slot of brake caliper support (4) (arrows A). If the spring steel sheets (8) are damaged.
↓
Replace spring steel sheets (8) in sets.		  
19 Fit springs (F) onto brake linings (1). If springs (F) are damaged:
↓
Replace springs (F) in sets.		  
20 Install brakepads (1). IMPORTANT Install only sets of brake pads (1) approved by Mercedes-Benz.
IMPORTANT Do not apply any lubricants to brakepads (1).		  
    IMPORTANT Press brakepads (1) in direction of arrow (B). Press springs (F) together until brake linings (1) fit into guides of spring steel sheets (8). By pressing in direction of arrow (C), position brakepads (1) entirely on brake disk.  
21 Install brake caliper (3).    
22 Tighten screws (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, guide pin to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1002-12X 
23 Clip electric line (7) into holder (6).    
24 Mount rear wheel and tire assemblies.   AR40.10-P-1102MFA
  Concluding tasks     
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
25 Operate brake pedal several times until the brakepads (1) make contact with the brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
26 Check fluid level in brake fluid expansion reservoir and correct if necessary.

27 Install cover above brake fluid expansion reservoir.    
DANGER Risk of death caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY OFF switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A 
28 Perform brake test on test stand.
