CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Perform commissioning of ESP® control unit (N30/4). When installing a new traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3)  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
    IMPORTANT The ESP® control unit (N30/4) is part of the traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).  
2 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (at least 2 m).    
3 Open hood.   AR88.40-P-1000XG
4 Detach sealing (1) on front-end assembly.    
5 Remove air intake scoop (2) and dust filter.    
6 Release vacuum line (3) and electrical lines (4) from center partition (5).    
7 Unscrew screws (6).    
8 Unclip center partition (5) together with the damping and remove.    
9 Remove right front wheel and tire assembly.   AR40.10-P-1102XG
10 Remove right front fender liner.   AR88.10-P-1300XG
11 Remove hose line (7) from right partition (8).    
12 Unscrew nuts (9).    
13 Remove right partition (8).    
14 Clean traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3) in the area of the brake line connections. NOTES
Thoroughly clean area around connecting points before opening hydraulic system. Otherwise minute dirt particles in the hydraulic components result in malfunctions and total failure of the hydraulic system.
IMPORTANT Only use clean, lint free rags and cleaner free of mineral oil.
Do not use any compressed air for cleaning when the brake system is open.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
15 Release electrical connector (10) on Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) then disconnect it.   AR42.45-P-0820-02LW 
    NOTES
It is essential to follow the work instructions for disconnecting the electrical connector (2).
Otherwise the locking mechanism can be damaged.
NOTES
Do not touch contacts of electrical connector (10) on Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) and do not damage them.
Do not allow any foreign objects, dirt or fluids to enter into the electrical connector (10).
Otherwise, the ESP® control unit (N30/4) will be damaged and malfunction.
 
16 Mark brake lines (11) for corresponding connection.    
17 Unscrew brake lines (11) from traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that the brake lines (11) are routed free of tension and that they are not chafing.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake line to ABS/ESP hydraulic unit *BA42.10-P-1004-04B 
18 Seal exposed brake lines (11) and connections on the traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3) with suitable stop plugs. NOTES
Seal brake lines (11) and connections on traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).
Otherwise the ingress of foreign objects will lead to damage to the traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
19 Pull traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3) together with holder (13) upward out of elastomer bearings (12). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Make sure that the studs (arrows) of the holder (13) are correctly seated in the elastomer bearings (12).  
20 Remove screw (14). When installing a new traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3)  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, bracket to traction system hydraulic unit *BA42.45-P-1001-01N 
21 Remove holder (13) from traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).    
INSPECT Check     
22 Check elastomer bearings (12) for wear and damage. If damage is present,

replace elastomer bearings (12).
 
23 Install in reverse order.    
24 Bleed brake system.   AR42.10-P-0010XG
