Speaker output, general
A distinction is made between the following procedures:
- Speaker output
- Speaker actuation in the event of voice output
This document does not describe speaker actuation with telematics services with a voice connection (e.g. emergency call).
Speaker output
On vehicles with code EM8 (TV tuner), the TV tuner control unit sends the audio signals over the Media Oriented System Transport to the head unit.
The audio signals are output by the head unit via direct lines over the following speakers:
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left rear door midrange speaker
- Right rear door midrange speaker
- Left front door woofer
- Right front door woofer
During actuation of the speaker system, the volume is adapted to the noise level in the vehicle interior. To do so, the head unit mutes the signals from the driver hands-free system microphone and the front passenger hands-free system microphone (interference monitoring).

The instrument cluster speaker (H4/61) for telematics services with voice connection is used for voice output, (e.g.. emergency call) and is actuated over direct lines by the HERMES control unit (N112/9).
Speaker actuation in the event of voice output
For voice output (except code EK1 (HERMES - LTE communication module) and except code EM2 (HERMES - UMTS communication module)) the following speakers are evaluated:
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left front door woofer
- Right front door woofer
