Remove/Install Timing Chain Lower Slide Rail - AR05.10-P-8420MSA

Engine 256.9 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 

MODIFICATION NOTES

26.02.2021 Determine position of cam of high-pressure fuel pump and adjust if necessary. Operation step 3.

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove timing case cover.   AR01.40-P-8000MSA
2 Remove bearing pins (10). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bearing pin to crankcase/cylinder head *BA05.10-P-1004-01MRT 
3 Remove bottom slide rail (11) with retaining clip (12). If drive gears (13, 15) were twisted toward each other without timing chain (2) and are no longer on ignition TDC of cylider 1:

Determine position of cam of high-pressure fuel pump and adjust if necessary.

INSPECT Check     
4 Check bottom slide rail (11) with retaining clip (12) for wear, galling, and damage. If damage is present:

replace bottom slide rail (11) with retaining clip (12).
 
5 Install in the reverse order.
