The AIRmatic control unit is located under the left front seat.
Tasks
The AIRmatic control unit has the following tasks:

Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Suspension FlexRay (Flex E)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via direct lines:
- Left rear level sensor (B22/7)
- Left front level sensor (B22/8)
- Right front level sensor (B22/9)
- Right rear level sensor (B22/10)
Chassis FlexRay
The AIRmatic control unit uses the suspension FlexRay and receives signals from the following control units:
- Left lower control panel (N72/4)
- Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4)
- Fully integrated transmission control unit (Y3/8n4)
- Electronic ignition lock control unit (N73)
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

The following components are actuated via direct lines:
- AIRmatic pressure reduction valve (A9/1y1)
- AIRMATIC relay (K40/8kR)
- Left front level control valve (Y36/6y1)
- Right front level control valve (Y36/6y2)
- Left rear level control valve (Y36/6y3)
- Right rear level control valve (Y36/6y4)
- Left front axle damping valve unit (Y51)
- Solenoid valve 1, left front (Y51y1)
- Solenoid valve 2, left front (Y51y2)
- Right front axle damping valve unit (Y52)
- Solenoid valve 1, right front (Y52y1)
- Solenoid valve 2, right front (Y52y2)
- Left rear axle damping valve unit (Y53)
- Solenoid valve 1, left rear (Y53y1)
- Solenoid valve 2, left rear (Y53y2)
- Right rear axle damping valve unit (Y54)
- Solenoid valve 1, right rear (Y54y1)
- Solenoid valve 2, right rear (Y54y2)
Chassis FlexRay
The AIRmatic control unit uses the suspension FlexRay and sends signals to the following control units:
- Instrument cluster (A1), over the electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN (CAN HMI)
- Electronic Stability Program control unit
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (gasoline engine) or CDI control unit (N3/9) (diesel engine), over the powertrain control unit (N127) and engine CAN (CAN C)
- Fully integrated transmission control, control unit
