Speaker output, general
A distinction is made between the following procedures:
- Speaker output in vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system)
- Speaker output in vehicles except CODE 810 (Sound system)
- Speaker actuation in the event of voice output
This document does not describe the speaker actuation in telematics services with voice connection (e.g. emergency call).
Speaker output in vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system)
The audio signals are routed by the audio equipment or as of 01.03.2016 by the tuner unit (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)), with code 865 (TV tuner)) or up to 29.02.2016 by the Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)), by the Satellite Digital Audio Radio (SDAR) control unit (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio) or by the digital TV tuner (with code 865 (TV tuner)) via Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit where they undergo final amplification and are output over the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Center instrument panel speaker
- Left door tweeter
- Right door tweeter
- Center rear speaker
- Left door midrange speaker
- Right door midrange speaker
- Left door woofer
- Right door woofer
Model 172.4 with code 348 (Emergency call/assistant system)
Model 172.4 with code 359 (TELE AID emergency call system)
Model 172.4 with code 360 (HERMES UMTS)
Model 172.4 with code 362 (HERMES LTE)
In telematics services with voice connection (e.g. emergency call), the center instrument panel speaker is used for voice output and - depending on the equipment installed - actuated by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) or by the HERMES control unit (N112/9).
Model 172.4 with code B63 (Vehicle sound iESS)
The sound system amplifier control unit receives synthesized sound signals from the engine sound control unit.
Speaker output in vehicles except CODE 810 (Sound system)
Except code B63 (Vehicle sound iESS), all audio signals are processed by the audio equipment and output via direct lines over the following speakers:
- Left door speaker
- Right door speaker
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Left door tweeter
- Right door tweeter
With code B63 (Vehicle sound iESS), the audio equipment sends the processed audio signals via direct lines to the engine sound control unit, which then forwards the audio signals over direct lines to the speakers.
Speaker actuation in the event of voice output
Only the front speakers are actuated for voice output (e.g. as part of telephony or navigation).
