- "Back" button
- Audio/COMAND controller
- Media button
In vehicles with code 816 (Entertainment remote control) or with code 867 (SPLITVIEW), operation is also possible via the remote control, for example. The Kleer® radio signal of the remote control is received by the COMAND controller unit via the headphones and remote control antenna.
Operating functions for the telephone keypad (model 222 except code 448 (Touchpad)) are also available, depending on the context. The telephone keypad transmits the operation signals via the following route:
Telephone keypad LIN →
Audio/COMAND control panel →
Telematics CAN →

Load CD or DVD function sequence
Pressing the button (1) on the COMAND controller unit causes the magazine menu, including the previously selected magazine slot in the CD/DVD changer, to be shown on the Audio/COMAND display. The load function can be selected by turning or pressing the Audio/COMAND controller on the Audio/COMAND control panel to the left or right. Selection is confirmed by pressing vertically onto the Audio/COMAND controller.
A CD or DVD must not be inserted until the corresponding request to do so appears on the Audio/COMAND display, e.g. "Please insert Disc 2".
Pressing and holding down the button (1) for a very long time (approx. 8 s) restarts the COMAND controller unit.
The duration of the loading process can vary depending on the type of data storage device involved.
When the CD or DVD has been loaded, the display changes. If no CD or DVD is inserted, the display also changes back after approx. 20 s. A loaded CD or DVD is shown in the Cartridge menu.
Several CDs or DVDs can be loaded one after the other. A CD or DVD must not be inserted until the corresponding request to do so appears on the Audio/COMAND display, e.g. "Please insert Disc 3". The COMAND controller unit now loads the empty magazine slots one after the other.
The COMAND controller unit transmits control signals to the Audio/COMAND display via the telematics CAN. The COMAND controller unit transmits video signals to the Audio/COMAND display via a low voltage differential signaling line.
Eject CD or DVD function sequence
Pressing the button (1) on the COMAND controller unit causes the "Magazine menu", including the previously selected magazine slot in the CD/DVD changer, to be displayed in the Audio/COMAND display. Ejection of CDs or DVDs can be selected using the Audio/COMAND control panel by rotating or pressing to the left or right. Selection is confirmed by pressing vertically onto the Audio/COMAND control panel.
As the CD or DVD is being ejected, a message e.g. "Ejecting disc 2..." is shown in the Audio/COMAND display. As soon as the CD or DVD has been ejected and is visible in the CD/DVD disc slot (2), an appropriate message is displayed e.g. "Please remove disc 2". When the CD or DVD has been removed, the display changes. If the CD or DVD is not removed, the CD or DVD is loaded again.
Ejecting can be canceled at any time by pressing the button (1) on the COMAND controller unit or pressing the Audio/COMAND control panel "Back" button.
The data exchange between the COMAND controller unit, the Audio/COMAND display, and the Audio/COMAND control panel takes place via the telematics CAN. The video signals are transmitted by the COMAND controller unit to the Audio/COMAND display via a low voltage differential signaling line.
