Voice control, general
Functions of the driver information system are called up and operated via the voice control system (VCS). The VCS is integrated into the COMAND controller unit. The system can be controlled by voice by spelling out or entering complete words.
Voice control function sequence
The voice control can be activated or deactivated using the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
- Voice control system ON button
- Voice control system OFF button
The operation signal for the voice control system ON button or the voice control system OFF button is forwarded via the following component parts:

COMAND control unit →
Voice input is through the hands-free system microphone, which is connected to the COMAND controller unit over a direct line. The spoken words are converted into an electrical signal by the hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit. Voice output in dialog with the VCS user in vehicles except code 810 (Sound system) and code 811 (Advanced sound system) is forwarded from the COMAND controller unit to the speaker system. In vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the COMAND controller unit forwards the audio signals over MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit, which actuates the speaker system.
