TV mode, general
The TV tuner control unit makes it possible to receive digital TV channels in the vehicle and show them on the Audio/COMAND display. To control the TV functions, the head unit communicates via MOST with the TV tuner control unit. If the head unit is not switched on, it can be activated using the "ON" button of the Audio/COMAND control panel (with code 448 (Touchpad)) or the lower control panel (with code 446 (Touchpad only)). The TV functions can be activated using the media button.
The Audio/COMAND control panel (with code 448 (Touchpad)) transmits the signals to the head unit via the telematics CAN. The lower control panel (with code 446 (Touchpad only)) transmits the signals to the head unit via the LCP-LIN, touchpad and telematics CAN.
For safety reasons the TV picture is switched off when the vehicle starts to move. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and a warning appears on the Audio/COMAND display. The head unit receives the speed signal from the instrument cluster over the user-interface CAN.
Emergency warnings are also shown while driving on the Audio/COMAND display.
Model 222
as of model year 2018
with code 864 (Rear compartment entertainment package)
with code 865 (digital TV)
The TV functions can also be used in the rear.
The TV functions can be activated and regulated with the following head unit multifunction steering wheel button group controls. The volume can be changed using the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group's volume adjustment switch. The control signals are transmitted as follows:
The head unit multifunction steering wheel button group signals are forwarded via the following route:
Steering wheel electronics →
Steering wheel CAN →
Steering column tube module control unit →
Chassis FlexRay →
Electronic ignition lock control unit →
User interface CAN →
Instrument cluster →
User interface CAN →
Head unit
The TV functions can be selected, activated and regulated using the following Audio/COMAND control panel controls (with code 448 (Touchpad)). The "Back" button supports navigation in the menus. The control signal are transmitted to the head unit by the Audio/COMAND control panel (with code 448 (Touchpad)) via the telematics CAN.
In vehicles with code 448 (Touchpad) or with code 446 (Touchpad only), TV functions can be operated with the touchpad. The touchpad transfers the signals to the head unit via the telematics CAN. In vehicles with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment System), TV functions can be selected, activated and adjusted using the remote control. The remote control's control signals are received by the Kleer® radio interface of the left rear display and the right rear display. The Rear Seat Entertainment system controller unit forwards the control signals via MOST to the TV tuner control unit.
The TV tuner control unit separates the video and audio signals that are contained in the TV signals. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:
- Function sequence for reception of TV signals
- Function sequence for output of video signals
- Function sequence for output of audio signals
- Function sequence for transferring TV signals (with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment System))
- Additional information (with CODE 498 (Japan version))
- Additional information (except CODE 498 (Japan version))
