WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove top engine covers (2). Engine 656 in Model 213, 238, 257 AR01.10-P-2405OIB
    Engine 654 in Model 257 AR01.10-P-2405OLC
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only install upper engine cover after the leak test.  
2 Remove engine air intake duct (3).    
3 Remove retaining clips and cold air intake (4). SPECIAL TOOL Clip remover Fig 2
4 Drill out rivets (15) of the supports (16) of the front bumper on the crossmember (6). Engine 654, 656 in Model 257  
    Blind rivet 6.4X12 (clamping range 1 mm to 3.5 mm, draw-off strength min. 15.5 kN) *BR00.45-Z-1035-13A 
5 Remove screws (14) of the supports (16) of the front bumper. Engine 654, 656 in Model 257  
      AR88.20-P-2000FR
6 Remove screws (5) and remove crossmember (6). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, lock striker to cross member/front-module carrier *BA62.30-P-1008-01H 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6X1 *BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION M8X1 *BA00.10-P-1004-04A 
7 Release and disconnect electrical connector from fan unit (1).    
8 Unclip bracket (9) from fan unit (1).    
9 Unclip coolant line (8) from fan unit (1).    
10 Drain off coolant.   AR20.00-P-1142OIB 
11 Unclip top cold air guide from fan unit (1).    
12 Remove coolant hoses (10, 11) from cooler and seal openings with protective covers.   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ

13 Remove coolant filling hose (12) from the cooler and seal openings with protective covers.   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ

14 Remove bleed line (13) from the cooler and seal openings with protective covers.   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ

15 Unclip fan unit (1) from the cooler mounts and remove upward.    
16 Install in the reverse order.    
  Concluding tasks     
17 Read out fault memory; clear fault memory if necessary.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   Model 238 with engine 656 AD00.00-P-2000-06LWO
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   Model 213 with engine 656 AD00.00-P-2000-04B
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   Model 257 with engine 654, 656 AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
INSPECT Check     
18 Check engine cooling system for leak tightness.   AR20.00-P-1010OIB
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
19 Carry out engine test run and check engine for proper leak tightness and leak tightness.    
20 Install top engine covers (2). Engine 656 in Model 213, 238, 257 AR01.10-P-2405OIB
    Engine 654 in Model 257 AR01.10-P-2405OLC
