Remove/Install On-Board Electrical System Battery - Ar54.10-D-0009TSR

MODIFICATION NOTES

15.05.2019 "Expose fuse holder at driver's seat and remove fuse F32 at fuse slot 32 of driver's seat fuse holder" added. Operation step 14

  Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Move driver seat to rearmost position.    
2 Remove front floor covering on driver side.   AR68.80-D-0006TSR
3 Remove bolts (2).    
4 Remove cover (3).    
5 Release nut (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, battery clamp to negative pole/positive pole of on-board electrical system battery/auxiliary battery *BA54.10-N-1001-01TS 
6 Disconnect ground line (5) from on-board electrical system battery (1) and remove from working area.    
7 Remove positive terminal cover from on-board electrical system battery (1).    
8 Slacken nut (6). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, battery clamp to negative pole/positive pole of on-board electrical system battery/auxiliary battery *BA54.10-N-1001-01TS 
9 Disconnect positive line battery clamp (7) with prefuse box from positive terminal of on-board electrical system battery (1) and remove from working area. IMPORTANT The prefuse box remains on the positive line battery clamp (7).  
10 Pull vent hose (10) off on-board electrical system battery (1). INSTALLATION NOTES :
Check that the vent hose (10) is correctly seated.
Otherwise escaping battery acid mist can cause damage to the vehicle.
 
11 Remove screws (9).    
12 Remove bracket (8) with screws (9) and vent hose (10). IMPORTANT The vent hose (10) remains in the bracket (8).  
13 Remove on-board electrical system battery (1).

REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE
Expose fuse holder at driver's seat and remove fuse F32 at fuse slot 32 of driver's seal fuse holder.

If the on-board electrical system battery (1) is to be removed for longer than 20 days.
NOTES
If the on-board electrical system is to remain disconnected for longer than 20 days, remove fuse F32.
Otherwise the Emergency-P battery will be discharged and possibly destroyed as a result of deep discharging.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Make sure that an intact 10 A fuse F32 is inserted again into fuse slot 32 of the driver's seat fuse holder.

15 Install in the reverse order.    
16 Set date and time in instrument cluster. IMPORTANT See Owner's Manual.  
17 Adjust weekday, time and default value of operating time on warm air stationary heater switch clock. Model 907.6/7
with code H11 (Auxiliary hot-air heater)

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Use the diagnostic system to confirm battery change in the SAM control unit in the "Actuations" menu item. If the on-board electrical system battery (1) was replaced. AD00.00-D-2000-06TS
