Due to recent events, we would like to inform you about the processing of vehicles with major modifications, e.g. camper van bodies. This applies in particular for warranty and goodwill operations Before starting work, always check who put the vehicle into service and sold it to the customer.
- A body manufacturer or its representative: responsibility lies with the body manufacturer.
- Body manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz AG or its representative: responsibility lies with Mercedes-Benz AG.
If the body manufacturer is the manufacturer/dealer, then the body manufacturer is also the customer's first point of contact in the case of claims from the purchase contract.
Generally, however, no customers whose vehicle is based on a Mercedes basic vehicle should be refused.
This applies, in particular, to processing scopes agreed upon between the body manufacturer and Mercedes-Benz AG (e.g. proven by the presentation of a document by the customer). The work described therein must be carried out. In case of doubt, contact Mercedes-Benz workshop support by means of a TIPS case.
Why are we informing you about this situation?
Working on highly modified vehicles involves great time and effort for which the Mercedes-Benz company-owned sales and service outlets or contract partners must ensure that responsibility and therefore remuneration of the work are incumbent upon Mercedes-Benz AG in order to prevent the refusal of cost acceptance by Mercedes-Benz AG. Make sure that the work operations to be carried out are scopes of the basic vehicle sold by Mercedes-Benz AG. If other activities are to be carried out on the vehicle, they must be invoiced to the end customer. The customer must then clarify with their body manufacturer whether they will reimburse the cost of the invoice to the customer.
Alternatively, before beginning work on scopes that are clearly not Mercedes-Benz scopes, you must agree upon the procedure with the corresponding body manufacturer in individual cases (costs, repair descriptions, replacement part delivery and similar). If, for example, the entry for delivery is not present in the Digital Service Booklet (DSB), then this should be ignored and the vehicle processed regardless.

How can responsibility be checked in advance?
- Vehicle documents where the manufacturer is noted (Mercedes-Benz AG, camper van manufacturer (e.g. Hymer GmbH), body manufacturer...)
- VeDoc where entries concerning bodies and conversions of vehicles can also be found that indicate those persons responsible.
