For liability law reasons, Mercedes-Benz Service Partners are obliged with immediate effect to document all retrofitting of non-genuine Mercedes-Benz products using an O-code. This is necessary to enable any consequential damage to be justly allocated to the originator. This is also necessary in cases where, for retrofitting, no SCN coding or any other form of activation per XENTRY Diagnostics is required.

In the "AO texts" tab (field organization texts) in the vehicle documentation system (VeDoc), it is essential to enter the manufacturer and type of the retrofitted third-party product. Any additional scopes in relation to the third-party product that have been retrofitted must also be entered in this text field, e.g. whether the engine cooling system has been adapted as per manufacturer specifications when a trailer hitch has been retrofitted. If customers at your Mercedes-Benz Service Partner wish activation of a non-genuine Mercedes-Benz product from the following product group overview (by means of coding), then the "exclusion of liability" form must additionally be used for any retrofits by external suppliers (OF00.00-D-3000-13DJ ). This form must be filled out and signed in duplicate. The customer/legal vehicle owner receives one copy, while the other copy must be filed in a tamperproof manner on the premises of the Mercedes-Benz Service Partner.

This form is to be kept together with the vehicle documentation. If the vehicle is resold, the seller must inform the new legal vehicle owner of the third-party retrofit. Please advise your customers of these facts.

IMPORTANT: Upon activation or the documentation of third-party retrofits Daimler AG will not assume any liability for warranty and implied warranties for the third-party product. The manufacturer in question or the company responsible for the installation shall be liable for any damage or claims.

Enter code QA4 (towing capacity 2500 kg) in VeDoc.
Then, conduct SCN coding as per WIS installation instructions.

Example 2, MODEL 906 for coding of a non-genuine Mercedes-Benz trailer hitch:

Enter code QA4 (towing capacity 2500 kg) and code O71 (Third-party trailer hitch) in VeDoc.
Enter the "manufacturer" and "type" of the third-party product in VeDoc under AO (field organization) texts.
Enter modifications and additional scopes (e.g. engine cooling system was not modified) in VeDoc!
Where necessary, perform further steps in accordance with the third-party installation instructions (non-Mercedes-Benz product).
Then, conduct SCN coding as per WIS installation instructions.
