Drain/Pour In Coolant - AR20.00-P-1142LF

WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses. AS20.00-Z-0001-01A

  Drain off     
1 Remove upper right engine compartment lining.    
2 Remove cap from coolant expansion reservoir    
3 Remove lower center and front engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105LF
4 Push drain hose (3) onto the drain fitting (2).    
5 Loosen drain screw (4) and collect escaping coolant in a suitable container.    
6 Switch on ignition for approx. 5 s and switch off again. Model 217 with engine 157, 276, 278, 279
Model 222 with engine 157, 276.8, 277, 278, 279, 642, 651
IMPORTANT Repeat the process two more times after a waiting time of approx. 30 s.
 
  Drain off coolant at coolant pump (1)     
7 Loosen coolant pump drain screw (5). Model 217 with engine 276.8
Model 222 with engine 276.8/9
IMPORTANT Depending on the repair scope, it is also required to drain the coolant at the coolant pump.
 
8 Push drain hose (3) onto coolant pump drain screw (5). Model 217, 222 with engine 276.8

9 Release coolant pump drain screw (5) from coolant pump (1) and collect escaping coolant in a suitable container. Model 217, 222 with engine 276.8

  Drain off at crankcase     
10 Remove catalytic converter DPF unit. Model 222 with engine 651
IMPORTANT Depending on the repair scope, it is also required to drain the coolant at the crankcase.

11 Remove screws (11) and remove heat shield (12). Model 222 with engine 651  
12 Remove screws (13) and remove heat shield (14). Model 222 with engine 651  
13 Release drain screw from crankcase (10). Model 222 with engine 651  
14 Push drain hose (3) onto drain screw on crankcase (10). Model 222 with engine 651  
15 Continue turning drain screw on crankcase (10) and collect escaping coolant in a suitable container. Model 222 with engine 651  
  Pour in     
16 Tighten drain screw (4) and detach drain hose (3) from drain fitting (2).    
17 Tighten coolant pump drain screw (5) on coolant pump (1) and detach drain hose (3) from coolant pump drain screw (5). Model 217, 222 with engine 276.8

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 217, 222 with engine 276.8/9Drain screw on coolant pump *BA20.10-P-1008-01AA 
18 Detach drain hose (3) from drain screw on crankcase (10). Engine 651 in model 222  
19 Tighten drain screw on crankcase (10). Engine 651 in model 222  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Coolant drain plug on crankcase *BA20.00-P-1001-02A 
20 Install heat shield (14). Engine 651 in model 222  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Heat shield on starter *BA15.30-P-1004-01P 
21 Install heat shield (12). Engine 651 in model 222  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heat shield to engine support *BA22.10-P-1003-02A 
22 Install catalytic converter DPF unit. Engine 651 in model 222 AR49.10-P-5501OLF
23 Pour in coolant and bleed engine cooling system. Model 217 with engine 157, 276, 278, 279

25 Check engine cooling system for leak tightness.   AR20.00-P-1010LF

27 Install upper right engine compartment lining.
