DANGER Risk of injury  when working on air conditioning systems due to R744 refrigerant escaping under pressure. Risk of suffocation from inhaling R744 refrigerant in high concentrations. Health hazard caused by inhalation of R744 refrigerant Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated. Model 217, 222 with engine 176

DANGER Risk of fire  due to ignition of R1234yf refrigerant on hot components. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with escaped R1234yf refrigerant and when working on pressurized parts. Risk of explosion  due to formation of ignitable refrigerant/air mixtures Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated rooms. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated. REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Discharge air conditioning system.   AR83.30-P-1760LF 
2 Remove fan unit. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install upper engine cover as well as front and center lower engine compartment lining only after the leak test. AR20.40-P-5050MNL
3 Remove poly-V-belt from refrigerant compressor (A9).   AR13.21-P-1203MNL
4 Remove screw (1).    
5 Remove refrigerant lines (2, 3) from refrigerant compressor (A9) and seal openings using suitable stop plugs. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, refrigerant line to refrigerant compressor *BA83.55-P-1003-02A

6 Remove bolts (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, refrigerant compressor to bracket for belt tensioner/oil pan/crankcase *BA83.55-P-1005-02A 
7 Release and disconnect electrical connector (4).    
8 Press radiator package upward out of the left elastomer bearing of the left radiator support mounting support.   AR20.20-P-3865MNL
9 Pull radiator package forward on left side only.   AR20.20-P-3865MNL
10 Remove refrigerant compressor (A9) downwards.    
11 Correct oil level of refrigerant compressor (A9). Model 217, 222 with engine 176

When replacing refrigerant compressor (A9).
 
      AR83.55-P-5310-02MNM 
12 Place refrigerant compressor (A9) for 10 minutes onto belt pulley and then turn belt pulley to and fro 3 times approx. 90°. Model 217, 222 with engine 176

When replacing refrigerant compressor (A9).
IMPORTANT This serves to fill the area surrounding the slide ring seal with oil.
 
13 Install in the reverse order.    
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
14 Perform engine test run; while doing so check engine and air conditioning system for proper operation and leak tightness.    
15 Install the front and lower center engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105LF
16 Install upper engine cover.
