Remove/Install Complete Rear Axle - AR35.10-P-0010MFA

22.07.2019 Remove exhaust system. Operation step 11.3.  
28.11.2019 Remove struts (9). Operation step 14.1, 14.2 and 15.  
17.12.2019 Release and disconnect electrical connectors at rear axle differential. Operation step 12.  
17.12.2019 Remove electrical wiring harnesses from rear axle differential. Operation step 13.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
2 Raise vehicle using vehicle lift and secure in place.   AR00.60-P-1006A

5 Remove rear underfloor paneling. Model 177, 247

7 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (2) and unclip from holders (6).    
8 Remove left rear level sensor or right rear level sensor. 10 Remove brake calipers of rear axle (1) with connected brake hoses and secure free of tension to vehicle. NOTES
Do not stretch, crush or kink the brake hoses.
This leads to damage to the brake hoses and can impair their function.
IMPORTANT Installation: Make sure that the brake hoses are routed correctly.

    If there is a clamp at the connecting point.

13 Remove electrical wiring harnesses from rear axle differential. Model 118, 177, 247

IMPORTANT The number of electrical lines varies depending on the vehicle equipment.
 
14.1 Remove screws (8) from struts (9). Model 118, 177 with engine 139
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/nut, strut to mounting console

14.2 Remove nuts from struts (9). Model 247.7 with engine 139

15 Unscrew screws (10) and remove struts (9). Model 118, 177, 247.7 with engine 139

16 Remove propeller shaft on rear axle differential. Model 118, 177, 247 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

IMPORTANT Installation: Replace screws.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, flexible coupling to rear axle differential *BA41.10-P-1002-01K 
17 Support rear axle (1).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 25 62 00 Lift table IMPORTANT Use lifting platform in combination with major assembly mount (universal). WS01.00-P-0264A
18 Remove screws (3). IMPORTANT Installation: Replace bolts (3).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, shock absorber to rear axle/spring link

19 Remove screws (7). Model 118, 177, 247
with code U55 (Multi-link axle)
IMPORTANT Replace screws (7).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, rear axle carrier decoupling element to body

20 Remove screws (5) and lower rear axle (1).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 25 62 00 Lift table IMPORTANT Replace bolts (5).
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, bearing bracket to body *BA35.15-P-1003-02H 
21 Transfer detachable parts of rear axle (1). When replacing rear axle (1).  
22 Install in the reverse order.    
  Concluding tasks     
23 Perform wheel alignment measurement.   AR40.20-P-0200MFA
