Remove/Install Fuel Tank - AR47.10-P-4100MFG

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

WARNING Risk of injury  . Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Empty the fuel tank (1).   AR47.10-P-4001MFD 
2 Remove propeller shaft. Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 139 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0050MFA
3 Unscrew bolts (2) and remove left reinforcement (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, strut to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1006-01N 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, strut to rear axle carrier *BA61.10-P-1005-01N 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/nut, strut to mounting console *BA61.10-P-1004-01N 
4 Unscrew bolts (4) and remove right reinforcement (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, strut to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1006-01N 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, strut to rear axle carrier *BA61.10-P-1005-01N 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/nut, strut to mounting console *BA61.10-P-1004-01N 
5 Remove filler neck with bleed line for fuel tank.   AR47.10-P-7541MFG 
6 Release and disconnect electrical connector (6) at fuel system control unit (N118).    
7 Unclip cable bracket (7).    
8 Release and disconnect connections (8) from activated charcoal canister (9).    
9 Seal exposed openings with suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
10 Release and disconnect fuel feed line (11).    
11 Seal the openings with suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
12 Support fuel tank (1).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
13 Remove screws (10). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, fuel tank/tensioning strap for fuel tank to body *BA47.10-P-1001-01T 
14 Lower fuel tank (1) and remove.    
INSPECT Check     
15 Perform visual check on fuel tank (1) and its connection and check for crack formation and damage. If there are problems:

Replace appropriate parts.
 
16 Install in the reverse order.    
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
17 Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
