Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Open engine hood   AR88.40-P-1000V

    SPECIAL TOOL Engine lifting device Fig 1
3 Disconnect lower steering shaft at steering coupling   AR46.10-P-8000V
4 Remove diagonal struts (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten the screws/bolts of the diagonal struts when the vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, front diagonal strut to frame floor or front axle carrier *BA61.10-P-1006-01A 
5 Remove screw/bolt (3) and detach oil line of power steering (2) from oil pan Model 171
Model 172 with engine 271, 276, 651		  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 171 with engine 271 Bolt, power steering oil line to oil pan *BA01.45-P-1002-01H 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 171 with engine 272 Screw/bolt, power steering pressure line to oil pan *BA01.45-P-1004-01M 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 172 with engine 271, 276, 651 Bracket, high-pressure line/low-pressure line to oil pan *BA46.30-P-1006-01R 
6 Remove bolt (6) and detach oil line of power steering (4) from front axle carrier (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 171 Bolt, power steering oil line to front axle carrier *BA46.30-P-1014-01D 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 172 with engine 271, 276, 651 Bolt, high-pressure line to major assembly carrier *BA46.30-P-1015-01R 
7 Disconnect plug from SPS solenoid valve (Y10) and detach electrical line from front axle carrier (5) Model 171
with code 213 (Direct-Steer system) Model 172
with code 213 (Speed-sensitive power steering)		  
8 Remove bolts (7) Model 171, 172  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 171 with engine 271, 272 Screw/bolt, front engine mount to front axle carrier *BA22.10-P-1006-01O 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 171 with engine 113 Bolt, front engine mount to front axle carrier *BA22.10-P-1001-01S 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 172 Bolt, front engine mount to front axle carrier *BA22.10-P-1002-03E 
9 Support front axle carrier (5) using telescopic lifter and transmission plate    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
      AR33.10-P-0100-03V 
10 Remove screws/bolts (8, 9)    
NOTES Notes on bolted connections with self tapping screws   AH00.00-P-0007-01SF
    NOTES Never use impact wrenches/drivers or compressed air tools for screwing the screw/bolts (8, 9) in and out.
Otherwise the threads can get damaged.
IMPORTANT The screws/bolts (8, 9) are self-tapping screws.
IMPORTANT Never re-tap thread in longitudinal member.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts (8, 9).		  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, front axle carrier to longitudinal member *BA33.10-P-1005-01A 
11 Lower front axle carrier (5) NOTES
Do not lower the front axle carrier (5) too much.
Otherwise lines and components could get damaged.		  
12 Install in the reverse order INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only tighten the nuts and bolts of the suspension components when the vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.  
13 Perform wheel alignment check Model 171 AR40.20-P-0200V
