REMOVING Remove     
  Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U gt= 30 V AC and U gt= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

1 Open engine hood and move to vertical position   AR88.40-P-1000V
2 Open quick-release fasteners (3) and remove air duct (4)    
INSPECT Check     
3 Visual inspection of battery or on-board electrical system battery for external leakage IMPORTANT If leakage found Replace battery or onboard electrical system battery, see:
Remove/install battery

4.1 Check fluid level of battery or on-board electrical system battery, add distilled water, if necessary Battery or on-board electrical system battery without service fill level indicator.  
4.2 Check fluid level of battery or on-board electrical system battery Battery or on-board electrical system battery with service fill level indicator.
IMPORTANT Fluid level indicator via service fill level indicator, if color is white, the acid level is too low: Replace battery or on-board electrical system battery, see:
Remove/install battery or on-board electrical system battery

5 Check battery or on-board electrical system battery IMPORTANT Use Midtronics battery tester/test equipment for the test.

6 Reduce increased voltage after charging process On a battery or an on-board electrical system battery that is disconnected from the on-board electrical system and with a "Surface voltage" message in the display of the Midtronics battery tester/test equipment.
IMPORTANT After reducing increased voltage, check battery or on-board electrical system battery again.

7 Charge battery or on-board electrical system battery With test code "Charge and check" of Midtronics battery tester/test equipment.
IMPORTANT Check the battery or on-board electrical system battery again after charging.

INSTALLING Install     
8 Install air duct (4) and close quick-release fasteners (3)    
9 Close engine hood   AR88.40-P-1000V
