General 

The Supplemental Restraint System describes the unit consisting of various passive safety elements that provide optimum occupant protection in the event of an accident.

The belt is prevented from extending in certain situations, irrespective of the status of the Supplemental Restraint System.

Function requirement 

• Circuit 15R ON

After switching off circuit 15R parts of the Supplemental Restraint System remain active for a specific run-on time.

If the battery is ripped off, the Supplemental Restraint System provides an energy reserve for at least 300 ms.

Supplemental restraint system 

The Supplemental Restraint System assesses various input factors such as, e.g. the occupancy status of the front passenger seat and the status of the seat belts. If the seat belt is not fastened, a seat belt warning is issued by the instrument cluster.

Signals from various sensors are evaluated for impact detection. The Supplemental Restraint System uses this information to calculate the optimum deployment points of the corresponding restraint equipment and triggers it in the event of an accident. After an accident, various functions are started that, e.g. reduce the risk of fire.

To ensure that the Supplemental Restraint System operates properly, its components are monitored constantly. Errors occurring are displayed to the driver in the instrument cluster.
