Impact Detection, Basic Function - GF91.60-P-1002A
MODEL ALL (CAR)
Overview
This document contains the following information:
- General
- Function requirement
- Impact detection
General
The impact detection records accident events. By evaluating the signals from various sensors, it is possible to differentiate between individual types of collision and to record the level of vehicle deceleration. The corresponding restraint equipment is triggered to match the situation.
Function requirement
- Circuit 15R ON
Impact detection
The Supplemental Restraint System control unit evaluates the signals from the following sensors:
- Front acceleration sensors on vehicle
- Acceleration sensors on B-pillars
- Pressure sensors in front doors
- Pressure sensors in rear doors (depending on body variant involved)
The lateral acceleration of the vehicle is also evaluated. This is recorded by an acceleration sensor in the Supplemental Restraint System control unit.
By evaluating the sensor data the Supplemental Restraint System differentiates between the following accident scenarios:
- Frontal impact
- Side impact
- Rear impact
- Rollover (along vehicle's longitudinal axis)
The traffic area in front of the vehicle is monitored with radar assistance. This makes it possible to detect an imminent collision at an early stage. The respective deployment points of the restraint equipment are adapted in accordance with the situation. On vehicles equipped with the Driving Assistance Package, the traffic area to the rear of the vehicle is also monitored.
