REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove engine compartment lining from center and front. Model 205
except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

2 Remove left or right front wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
3 Remove left front axle rpm sensor (L6/1) or right front axle rpm sensor (L6/2) and place to one side with holder and line. Model 205
except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

4 Unscrew nut (2) and remove tie rod (3) from steering knuckle (4). NOTES
The ball head must be counterheld and an impact wrench/driver must not be used.
Otherwise the ball head or steering knuckle (4) will be damaged.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to steering knuckle *BA46.40-P-1001-01P 
5 Unscrew nut (5) and remove strut rod (1) from steering knuckle (4).
Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths
NOTES
The ball head must be counterheld and an impact wrench/driver must not be used. Otherwise the ball head or steering knuckle (4) will be damaged.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, strut rod to steering knuckle *BA33.20-P-1003-01U 
SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench attachment, 24_mm Fig 3
6 Loosen holder (6) from front axle carrier (7). When removing the right strut rod (1).  
7 Remove AIRMATIC compressor. When removing the left strut rod (1). Model 205
with code 489 (AIRMATIC) except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
Model 213.0 (except 213.064/088/089), 213.1
with code 489 (AIRMATIC)
except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

8 Remove electrical coolant pump for low-temperature water circuit and hang to the side with connected lines. Model 205 with engine 177 except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)  
9 Detach and remove strut rod (1) from front axle carrier (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, strut rod to front axle carrier *BA33.20-P-1004-01U 
INSPECT Check     
10 Check strut rod (1) with sealing bellows, ball head and elastomer bearing for damage.    
11 Replace elastomer bearing for caster correction. Model 205 (except 205.064/086/087/264/286/287/364/386/387/46 4/486/487), 213 (except 213.064/088/089/264/288/289) except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
If elastomer bearing for caster correction is damaged (bearing core off-center) and the strut rod (1) is to be reused.
IMPORTANT The elastomer bearing variants are shown in the reference document.

12 Replace strut rod (1). Model 205 (except 205.064/086/087/264/286/287/364/386/387/46 4/486/487), 213 (except 213.064/088/089/264/288/289) except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
If neutral elastomer bearing (bearing core in center), seal bellows, ball head is damaged or if the strut rod (1) is dam aged Model 205.064/086/087/264/286/287/364/386/387/46 4/486/487, 213.064/088/089/264/288/289 except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) lf elastomer bearing, seal bellows, ball head is damaged or if strut rod (1) is damaged
 
13 Replace elastomer bearing of new strut rod (1) with an elastomer bearing for caster correction. Model 205 (except 205.064/086/087/264/286/287/364/386/387/46 4/486/487), 213 (except 213.064/088/089/264/288/289) except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
When replacing the strut rod (1) if the removed strut rod (1) has an elastomer bearing for caster correction (bearing core off-center) installed.
IMPORTANT The elastomer bearing variants are shown in the reference document.

14 Install in the reverse order.
