Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated. 2 Remove engine air intake duct (1).

4 Install protective plate (2).

5 Remove poly-V-belt. Engine 274 in model 253 (except 253.354/954)

6 Release and disconnect electrical connector (6).    
7 Remove front and center lower engine compartment paneling. Engine 274 in model 205 except code ME06 (Hybrid drive 60 kW variant (incl. plugin)) Engine 274 in model 253 (except 253.354/954) AR61.20-P-1105LW

8 Remove screw (7).    
9 Remove high-pressure line (8) and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
10 Remove screw (9).    
11 Remove low-pressure line (10) and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
12 Remove screws (4, 5).    
13 Remove screw (3) and remove refrigerant compressor (11) upwards from engine compartment.    
INSTALLING Install     
14 Correct oil level of refrigerant compressor (11). Engine 274 in model 213 with code 1U6 (R744 refrigerant) except code ME06 (Hybrid drive 60 kW variant (incl. plugin)) When replacing the refrigerant compressor (11).

15 Place refrigerant compressor (11) for 10 minutes onto belt pulley and then turn belt pulley to and fro 3 times by approx. 90°. Engine 274 in model 213 with code 1U6 (R744 refrigerant) except code ME06 (Hybrid drive 60 kW variant (incl. plugin)) When replacing the refrigerant compressor (11).
IMPORTANT This serves to fill the area surrounding the slide ring seal with oil.
 
16 Position refrigerant compressor (11) and tighten screw (3) lightly by hand.    
17 Tighten screws (3, 4, 5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, refrigerant compressor to timing case/crankcase/engine support *BA83.55-P-1001-01M 
18 Remove stop plug, install low-pressure line (10) with sealing ring and tighten screw (9). IMPORTANT Replace seal. Moisten sealing ring with compressor oil.

19 Remove stop plug, install high-pressure line (8) with sealing ring and tighten screw (7). IMPORTANT Replace seal. Moisten sealing ring with compressor oil.

21 Put together electrical connector (6) and lock.    
22 Install poly-V-belt. Engine 274 in model 253 (except 253.354/954)

27 Perform commissioning of refrigerant compressor (11) with vehicle diagnosis system, and read out and erase the fault memory. When replacing the refrigerant compressor (11).

    IMPORTANT Menu item: Control unit adaptations  
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
28 Perform engine test run; while doing so check engine and air conditioning system for proper operation and leak tightness.
