Symbol illumination, function
The symbol illumination lights up all controls.
Activating the symbol illumination makes it easier for the driver to find important controls and look for objects in the vehicle without having to switch on the ignition or the interior illumination to do so.
The symbol illumination is switched on by unlocking the vehicle via radio, opening a vehicle door, or changing the status of circuit 15.
The luminosity with which the symbol illumination is to be realized cannot be adjusted. The symbol illumination is actuated with a fixed value (circuit 58d).
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking and the status of circuit 15 via the interior CAN, AMG gateway control unit, and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.
The door control units send the status of the doors (open or closed) over the interior CAN, AMG gateway control unit and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster evaluates all incoming information, generates the circuit 58d signal, and sends it via the user interface CAN to the following control units to actuate the symbol illumination:
- Head unit
- AMG gateway control unit
The head unit activates the integrated controls and sends the circuit 58d signal over the telematics CAN to the following control units, which then switch on the integrated controls:
- Audio/COMAND display
- Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only))
- Touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only), code 448 (Touchpad), code 506 (Radio, Audio 20 NTG 5.5) or code 531 (COMAND APS))
The AMG gateway control unit actuates the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button directly.
The AMG gateway control unit also actuates the following component parts up to 30.11.2018:
- Actuation through the AMG DRIVE UNIT-LIN:
- Transmission mode rotary switch
- Direct actuation:
- AMG ESP sport off button
- AMG suspension button
- AMG button
- Rear spoiler button (except CODE 479 (AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension) and except CODE U78 (AMG sports exhaust system))
- ECO start/stop function button
As of 01.12.2018, the AMG gateway control unit transmits the circuit 58d signal to the steering column tube module control unit and the Drive Unit control unit via the AMG FlexRay.
The Drive Unit control unit transmits the signal of circuit 58d via the Drive Unit CAN to the left lower control panel and the right lower control panel which then switch on the integrated control elements.
The AMG gateway control unit sends the circuit 58d signal via the interior CAN to the following control units:
- Front SAM control unit
- Climate control control unit
- Left door control unit
- Right door control unit
The climate control control unit actuates the switch and controls and symbol illumination of the climate control operating unit via the climate control LIN.
The left door control unit actuates the following components:
- Actuation via left door LIN:
- Power window and outside mirror adjustment switch group, driver side
- Left switch group, seat adjustment (with CODE P64 (Memory package))
- Direct actuation:
- Trunk lid/liftgate unlocking button
- Left door central locking interior switch
The right door control unit actuates the following components:
- Actuation via right door LIN:
- Right switch group, seat adjustment (with CODE P64 (Memory package))
- Direct actuation:
- Front passenger power window switch
The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:
- Actuation via the instrument panel LIN:
- Controls on the upper control panel control unit
- Direct actuation:
- Surround lamp in inside mirror
- Right footwell lamp
- Left footwell lamp
- Controls on overhead control panel electronics
- Ashtray illumination in cigarette lighter with ashtray illumination (with CODE 301 (Smoker's package))
- Exterior lights switch
- Electric parking brake switch
For vehicles as of 01.12.2018 the following applies:
The steering column tube module control unit actuates the following component parts via the steering wheel CAN and steering wheel electronics:
- Instrument cluster multifunction steering wheel button group
- Head unit multifunction steering wheel button group
For vehicles up to 30.11.2018 the following applies:
The front SAM control unit sends the circuit 58d signal via the chassis CAN 1 to the steering column tube module control unit.
The steering column tube module control unit actuates the multifunction steering wheel button groups over the steering LIN and the steering wheel electronics.
