DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A 
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove brake caliper (1) with connected brake hose from front axle.   AR42.10-P-0070RGA 
2 Fasten brake caliper (1) at vehicle free of tension. NOTES
Do not stretch, crush or kink the brake hoses and brake lines.
This leads to damage to the brake hoses and brake lines, and it can impair their function.
 
    IMPORTANT Do not damage paint of brake caliper (1).  
3 Remove brake linings (2) from brake caliper (1). IMPORTANT Dispose of brake linings (2) as special waste. The local authorities can provide information regarding whether disposal is also permitted as industrial waste similar to domestic waste.  
    IMPORTANT Do not release or remove screw bolts (4). Press the brake linings (2) against the force of the retaining springs (3) of the screw bolts (4).  
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only sets of brake linings (2) approved by Daimler AG may be installed.  
4 Pull right front brake lining wear sensor (S10/2) out of backing plate of brake linings (2) then release and disconnect from the electrical connection for the right front brake lining wear sensor (S10/2x1). Only when replacing the brake linings (2) or when the right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2) is defective.  
INSPECT Check     
5 Check brake caliper (1) for leak tightness and dust boots for damage. If there is a problem,

replace brake caliper (1).

6 Check brake linings (2) for condition and wear.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

Replace brake linings (2).

7 Check brake disks for condition and wear.   AR42.10-P-0120RG 
    IMPORTANT Only brake disks approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.  
    If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk.
 
      AR42.10-P-0230RG 
8 Check retaining springs (3). If there is a problem,

Replace retaining springs (3).
 
CLEAN Clean     
9 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (2) at brake caliper (1). NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise the dust boots or the brake pistons could be damaged.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
INSTALLING Install     
10 Install right front brake lining wear sensor (S10/2) into backing plate of brake linings (2) and connect to electrical connector for right front brake lining wear sensor (S10/2x1). Only when replacing the brake linings (2) or when the right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2) is defective.  
11 Install brake linings (2) in brake caliper (1). NOTES
Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the brake linings (2) and brake caliper (1).
Malfunctions may occur otherwise.
 
    IMPORTANT Only sets of brake linings (2) approved by Daimler AG may be installed.  
12 Install brake caliper (1) free of tension.   AR42.10-P-0070RGA 
    NOTES
Do not stretch, crush or kink the brake hoses and brake lines.
This leads to damage to the brake hoses and brake lines, and it can impair their function.
 
    NOTES
The brake line pieces (99) of the brake hoses must not be bent.
Replace the affected brake hoses with damaged brake line pieces (99) immediately.
 
    If brake line piece (99) is damaged,

Replace affected brake hose.

13 Actuate brake pedal several times until brake linings (2) make contact at brake disks.    
INSPECT Check     
14 Check/correct brake fluid level in brake fluid    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY OFF switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A 
15 Perform brake test on test stand.
