Location

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is located at the front right in the engine compartment.

Tasks

The primary task of the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is electronic engine management with the goal of economic engine operation with low emissions. In doing so the ME-SFI [ME] control unit continuously detects the relevant influencing factors, processes these and determines respective control signals for the individual actuators. For example injection quantities, the injection period, charging and throttle valve position are controlled. For deviations from normal operation the respective information is stored in the fault memory.

The electronic engine management includes the control of the following functions:

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is networked over the following bus systems with the vehicle electronics:

For implementation of the electronic engine management the ME-SFI [ME] control unit undertakes the following tasks:

Reading in of signals

Different sensors that detect the engine operating status are connected via direct lines to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit. These sensors deliver current, voltage or resistance values out of which the ME-SFI [ME] control unit deduces the operating condition of the engine. To do this the following sensors are important:

For implementation of the electronic engine management the ME-SFI [ME] control unit reads in a number of sources including the following signals over the various bus systems.

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Actuation of components

The CDI control unit realizes the electronic engine management through actuation of various actuators which connected over direct lines:
