Information on touchpad

The touchpad is installed in two variants.

Variant (with code 448 (Touchpad)): The touchpad is installed together with the Audio/COMAND control panel. The touchpad is connected only to the telematics CAN.

Variant 2 (with code 446 (Touchpad only)): The touchpad is installed instead of the Audio/COMAND control panel. In this case, the upper control panel control unit, the left lower control panel and right lower control panel are connected to the touchpad over the LCP-LIN. The touchpad is also connected to the telematics CAN.

Function requirements, general

TV mode

The TV tuner control unit enables the reception of digital television programs. The program contents are shown in the audio/COMAND display.

The head unit can be switched ON using the "ON" button in the respective lower control panel. The respective lower control panel sends the status of the "ON" button over the LCP-LIN, Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)) or touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only)) and the telematics CAN to the head unit.

Vehicles without CODE (498) Japan version

The TV programs are broadcast using the Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial standard (DVB-T/DTV-T2) in the 470 to 710 MHz range. In addition to the video compression standard Mpeg 2, Mpeg 4 and Mpeg H (+H.265) is also supported. Encrypted programs can also be received with the aid of a Common Interface Plus (CI+) module.

New services will be available in future in the 90 to 108 MHz and 170 to 222 MHz frequency ranges.

The TV tuner control unit has the following functionalities:

IMPORTANT Video text function: Some stations, primarily in central Europe, also offer video text along with your TV programs. To this end, the TV tuner control unit is equipped with a separate video text decoder. Only video text broadcast with Latin ASCII characters are supported, i.e. Greek or Cyrillic characters are not supported.

Vehicles with CODE 498 (Japan version)

With digital TV reception the "one-segment" substandard (TV standard for mobile telephony) is also supported in addition to the "full-segment" substandard.

The TV tuner control unit has the following functionalities:

The TV functions can be operated using the following controls:

The TV tuner control unit splits up the video and audio signals that are contained in the TV signals.

The TV mode function comprises the following subfunctions:

Receipt of TV signals

TV 1 signals are received by the rear window antenna A2/32 (model 205.0/1/3, 253.99) or the windshield antenna A2/118 (model 205.2/4) and forwarded over the TV 1 and DAB Band III antenna amplifier A94/5 (model 205.0/1/3, 253.99) or the FM 2, DAB and TV 1 antenna amplifier A2/131 (model 205.2/4) to the TV tuner control unit.

TV 2 signals are received by the rear window antenna A2/32 (model 205.0/1/3, 253.99) or the windshield antenna A2/118 (model 205.2/4) and forwarded over the TV 2 antenna amplifier A94/6 (model 205.0/1/3, 253.99) or the TV 2 and DAB Band III antenna amplifier A2/123 (model 205.2/4) and the TV and DAB antenna splitter A2/124 (model 205.2/4 with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB))) to the TV tuner control unit.

TV 3 signals are received by the windshield antenna and forwarded over the TV 3 antenna amplifier to the TV tuner control unit.

The TV tuner control unit processes the TV signals and separates the video signals from the audio signals.

IMPORTANT Operating electrical or electronic devices (e.g. USB chargers) inside the vehicle can significantly impair the reception quality.

Output of video signals

The TV program contents are shown in the audio/COMAND display. The TV tuner control unit sends the video signals over MOST, head unit and the HSVL line to the audio/COMAND display.

Audio signal output

The audio signals are output via the speaker system. The TV tuner control unit sends the audio signals over MOST to the head unit. The head unit amplifies the audio signals and on vehicles except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 853 ("Midline" sound system) it issues them directly through the speaker system.

On vehicles with code 810 (Sound system) the TV tuner control unit sends the audio signals over MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit, which amplifies the audio signals and issues them through the speaker system.

On vehicles with code 853 ("Midline" sound system) the TV tuner control unit sends the audio signals over MOST to the Midline sound system amplifier control unit, which them amplifies the audio signals and issues them through the speaker system.
