Remove/install rear-axle brake caliper - AR42.10-P-0080GW

MODEL 463 as of model year 2013 except code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42)

DANGER Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of  injury from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Detach rear complete wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050G
2 Detach retaining spring from brake caliper If installed.  
3 Disconnect electrical connection from right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4) If installed.  
4 Detach right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4) from brake caliper (5) If installed and only when replacing brake caliper (5).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, brake wear contact sensor to floating caliper *BA42.10-P-1004-17B 
5 Detach brake hose (6) from brake caliper (5) When replacing brake caliper (5).

6 Collect any escaping brake fluid using a suitable container    
7 Seal exposed connections with plugs SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Figure
8 Pry off and remove dust cap (3) from boots (4) Model 463
as of model year 2013 up to model year 2016 except code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42)
 
9 Remove guide pins TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, pilot bushing/guide pin to brake caliper support *BA42.10-P-1002-17B 
10 Remove brake caliper (5) NOTES
Do not subject brake hoses (6) to tensile loads or kink. To relieve the load on the brake hose (6), fasten the brake caliper (5) to the vehicle free of tension.
Otherwise the brake hose (6) will be damaged.
 
11 Remove brake linings (1) IMPORTANT Only complete sets of brake linings (1) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the brake linings (1) and brake caliper (5).
 
12 Unscrew screws/bolts securing brake caliper support (7) to rear axle tube and remove brake caliper support (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, brake caliper support to rear axle tube *BA42.10-P-1003-17B 
CLEAN Clean     
13 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (1) in brake caliper (5) NOTES
While doing so, do not damage the dust boots on the brake piston. Do not use sharp-edged or pointy tools.
Otherwise the brake caliper (5) or brake caliper support (7) will be damaged.
 
14 Install in the reverse order    
15 Bleed brake system If brake hose (6) was previously removed.

16 Depress brake pedal several times until brake linings (1) make contact with brake disks (2) and a firm resistance is noticeable    
INSPECT Check     
17 Check brake system for leaks If brake hose (6) was previously removed.  
  AR42.10-P-0015GW 
18 Carry out brake test on the test stand
