Remove/install air spring - AR32.22-P-1500LW

MODEL 205 with CODE 489 (AIRMATIC (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system (ADS)))

DANGER Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of the mechanism when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Detach rear complete wheel   AR40.10-P-1101A
2 Empty air spring (4) using diagnostic system    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS AD00.00-P-2000-04B
INSTALLATION NOTES Install and fill air spring (4) as per specifications.
The air spring (4) may otherwise be damaged and fail later.
3 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key    
4 Remove spring control arm cover (1) IMPORTANT Open mounting bar (3) at spring control arm cover (1) and unhook retaining lugs (2).  
5 Detach pressure line (5) from air spring (4) INSTALLATION NOTES Carefully screw pressure line (5) onto plastic thread of air spring (4).
If it is not screwed on properly, the plastic thread will be damaged thus causing irreparable damage to the air spring (4).
IMPORTANT Seal off the pressure line (5) using a blind plug for the duration of the repair work.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Pressure line to rear air suspension/valve unit *BA32.22-P-1005-03G 
SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit
Damaged pressure-line connections or damaged pressure lines (5) must be replaced.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Pressure line to rear air suspension/valve unit *BA32.22-P-1005-03G 
Leak detection spray *BR00.45-Z-1002-03A 
Leakage detection spray for USA *BR00.45-Z-1004-03A 
SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit Fig 3

6 Detach shock absorber (7) from spring control arm (6) IMPORTANT Push shock absorber (7) down as far as possible.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, shock absorber to spring control arm *BA32.25-P-1001-03P 
7 Pull air spring (4) downwards carefully at its upper plastic frame until the air spring (4) releases from the retaining clip NOTES Push air spring (4) together or pull apart. Otherwise the air spring (4) may be damaged.
IMPORTANT The retaining clip is destroyed when the air spring (4) is removed.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The air spring (4) must engage in the retaining clip.
 
8 Remove air spring (4) rearwards INSTALLATION NOTES There must not be any intrusions on the protective boot. Otherwise the movement of the spring will damage the spring bellows on the inside.
NOTES Carefully remove air spring (4).
Otherwise the protective boot of the air spring (4) will be damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The air spring (4) with the air spring centering (arrow) must be positioned correctly in the lower spring control arm (6).
 
9 Remove retaining clip   AR32.22-P-1500-02EW
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replacing retaining clip
INSPECT Check     
10 Check air spring (4) for damage IMPORTANT Replace air spring (4), if damaged.  
11 Install in the reverse order    
12 Check AIRmatic for leaks   AR32.22-P-8100LW
