Remove/install upper control arm - AR33.20-P-0500LW

MODEL 205

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on repair work on suspension components   AH00.00-P-0100-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Disconnect ground line and positive line of on-board electrical system battery When removing upper transverse control arm (2) on right side.  
MODEL 205 (except 205.08/28/38)
without CODE ME04 (Hybrid drive, 20KW variant)
without CODE ME06 (Hybrid drive 50-KW variant (incl. plugin))

2 Remove left or right front wheel-and-tire assy   AR40.10-P-1101A
3 Remove corresponding front suspension strut MODEL 205
with CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)
AR32.25-P-1017LWL
4 Detach front level sensor retaining clamp (1) from upper transverse control arm (2) If installed.
IMPORTANT Pay attention to installation position.
 
5 Secure steering knuckle (3) against folding down    
6 Unscrew nut (4) and detach upper transverse control arm (2) at steering knuckle (3) NOTES The ball head must be counterheld and a impact wrench/driver must not be used. Otherwise the ball head or steering knuckle (3) may be damaged.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, steering knuckle to transverse control arm *BA33.20-P-1006-01U 
7 Remove support from working area and lower vehicle MODEL 205
with CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)
IMPORTANT Do not lower vehicle too far.
 
8 Remove cover (5) or service flap (6)    
9 Unscrew nuts (7) and place engine fuse and relay module (K40/8) to one side When removing the upper transverse control arm (2) on left side.  
10 Unclip coolant container (8) When removing upper transverse control arm (2) on right side.  
11 Unscrew nuts (9) on corresponding side of vehicle TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, transverse control arm to body *BA33.20-P-1005-01U 
12 Unscrew screws/bolts (10) and remove upper transverse control arm (2)    
INSPECT Check     
13 Check elastomer bearing and ball-and-socket-type joint from upper transverse control arm (2) for signs of wear and damage When reinstalling upper transverse control arm (2).
IMPORTANT Perform visual inspection and replace transverse control arm (2) if necessary.
 
14 Install in the reverse order
