Check condition of steering and tie rods - AP46.00-P-4651A

DANGER Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating range of the mechanism when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
INSPECT Check     
1 Switch electronic ignition lock control unit to position "0"    
2 Lift vehicle on vehicle lift    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-P-1002LWG
3 Check sleeve (10m) and tie rod ball joint (10g) on right and left tie rod (10)    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR46.40-P-0200LW 
    IMPORTANT Check sleeves (10 m) for condition, leaktightness and correct seat. Check play of tie rod joint (10g) by pulling and pushing firmly on the tie rod (10).
If there are problems:

Replace tie rod (10) subject to separate repair order.
 
4 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR61.20-P-1105LW
5 Check steering for condition NOTES
Check steering for mechanical damages. If the steering shows signs of mechanical damage: Subject to separate repair order, replace steering for safety reasons.
 
6 Check boots (10f) and clamps (7)    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR46.40-P-0400LW 
    NOTES
Do not check the boots (10f) by pressing in or around the raised bead.
Otherwise the material may be damaged, leading to leakage with consequential damage.
IMPORTANT Stretch boots (10f) by turning steering to left and right, and check for cracks, intrusions and chafe marks.
For cracks, intrusions and chafe marks:

Replace boot (10f) subject to separate repair order.
 
7 Install lower engine compartment paneling

8 Lower vehicle with lifting platform    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-P-1002LWG
