Remove/install electronic stability program (ESP) control unit - AR42.45-P-0820EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1.1 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key from electronic ignition lock control unit MODEL 166, 207, 212, 218

1.2 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key or KEYLESS-GO start/stop button from electronic ignition lock control unit MODEL 166, 207, 212, 218

2 Open engine hood MODEL 166, 207, 212, 218

3 Remove the left engine intake air duct MODEL 207 with ENGINE 272, 273, 642 up to model year 2015

CLEAN Clean     
4 Clean the area surrounding the electrical connection (2) for the ESP® control unit (1) NOTES
Clean thoroughly with clean, lint-free rag and assembly cleaner only.
Otherwise, even the smallest particles of dirt introduced into the ESP® control unit (1) can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the brake system.

Do not allow any foreign objects, dirt or fluids to enter the jack or connector.
Otherwise, the function of the brake system may be impaired.

7 Remove bolts (3) INSTALLATION NOTES
Use exact specified tightening torques only. Too large tightening torques result in damage to the ESP® control unit (1), too small tightening torques result in poor connection in the contact areas.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace bolts (3).

8 Detach ESP® control unit (1) from hydraulic unit (7) NOTES
Do not touch contact areas and sealing silicone on the ESP® control unit (1) by hand or with a tool.
Otherwise, damage and leaks may occur.
 
9 Disconnect electrical connector (2) MODEL 166

11 Remove O-rings (4) from valve dome (5) by hand NOTES
Do not use tools.
Otherwise, the hydraulic unit (7) will be damaged.
 
CLEAN Clean     
12 Clean sealing surface on hydraulic unit (7) Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
13 Install in the reverse order    
14 Calibrate ESP® control unit (1) using diagnostic system When replacing ESP® control unit (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
15 Read out and erase fault memory
