Remove/install hood hinge - AR88.40-P-3060LW

DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  from fingers being pinched or jammed when working on gas struts under pressure Only remove and install pneumatic springs when they are not under tension and when the components are properly secured. AS00.00-Z-0012-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  during testing and repair operations related to pyrotechnical components Do not expose pyrotechnical components to temperatures above 100°C or 212. Disconnect current supply when working on such components. AS91.00-Z-0008-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove engine hood lifter (9) Model 205, 253
with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))

2 Detach cover (8) in area of hinge (1) Model 205  
3 Remove water hose on left spray nozzle and unhook from left bracket Model 253
When removing left hinge (1).
 
4 Unhook water hose from hinge (1) When removing left hinge (1).  
5 Lift retainer (13) with suitable screwdriver and unclip gas-filled strut (12) from hinge (1) NOTES Do not remove retainer (13).
Otherwise the tension of the retainer (13) can be lost.
IMPORTANT Helper required to secure engine hood (7).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Clip gas-filled struts (12) into hinge (1) with retainer (13) installed.
 
6 Lay dry cloth between engine hood (7) and air/water duct NOTES Use dry cloth.
Otherwise the engine hood (7) and adjacent components can be damaged.
 
7 Unscrew nuts (10) and carefully lay engine hood (7) down on dry cloth NOTES Secure engine hood (7) against slipping off. Otherwise the windshield, engine hood (7) and adjacent components can be damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Screw in nuts (10) only to stop. They are tightened after adjusting the engine hood (7).
 
8 Remove bolts (11) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Screw in nuts (11) only to stop. They are tightened after adjusting the engine hood (7).  
9 Remove hinge (1) IMPORTANT Model 253 left hinge (1)
Installation:  Observe routing water hose by hinge (1).
 
10 Install in the reverse order    
11 Adjust engine hood (7)   AR88.40-P-3020LW
