DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing hydraulic fluid. Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. AS00.00-Z-0013-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Set selector lever to position "N" and release parking brake    
2 Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel with holding device NOTES
The steering wheel must not be turned when detaching steering coupling.
Otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

8 Remove left and right front armor plate Model 222 with engine 277, 279

9 Remove left and right catalytic converter   AR49.10-P-7100LF
10 Remove right part of the firewall    
11 Disconnect electrical connections (1, 2, 3)    
12 Unclip bracket (4) and place to one side    
13 Remove screw/bolts (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, reinforcement to firewall/longitudinal member/reinforcement, center *BA62.25-P-1001-01B 
14 Remove triangular strut (6)    
15 Disconnect electrical connections (7, 8) on ME-SFI [ME] control unit   AR07.08-P-7008MUB
16 Disconnect Electrical connections (9, 10, 11, 12)    
17 Detach electrical lines (13, 14)    
18 Remove engine wiring harness upwards and place to one side    
19 Detach coolant hose (15)    
20 Detach vacuum line (16) from firewall and place to one side    
21 Detach purge line (17) on check valve (18) and place to one side    
22 Detach coolant hose (19) at the coolant pipe (20)    
23 Detach coolant hose (21) at the left coolant pipe    
24 Pull out coolant hose (22)    
25 Detach bleed hose (23) from coolant pipe (24) and place to one side    
26 Relieve fuel pressure over diagnostic socket   AR07.03-P-1460-01MUB
27 Disconnect fuel hose (26) at fuel line (25) and close off openings using grommets TORQUE SPECIFICATION Union nut, fuel hose to fuel line *BA07.03-P-1004-01G

28 Unclip hydraulic oil hose (27) SPECIAL TOOL Clamp Fig 14
29 Detach hydraulic oil hose (27) at radial piston pump    
30 Remove screw/bolt (28) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut, refrigerant line to inner heat exchanger *BA83.30-P-1004-01P 
31 Detach refrigerant line (29) and close off openings with grommets INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new sealing rings.

34 Detach coolant hose (31) from coolant circulation pump (/32)    
35 Secure radiator against falling down    
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

36 Detach oil hoses from engine oil cooler   AR18.30-P-1000MUB
37 Unscrew nut (33) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, hot gas line to condenser *BA83.30-P-1008-01P 
38 Remove refrigerant line (34) from condenser and close off openings with grommets INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install new sealing rings.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, steering knuckle to transverse control arm *BA33.20-P-1006-01T 
55 Remove screw/bolts (45) at fastening console (46) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut, front mounting console to front axle carrier *BA33.10-P-1003-01P 
56 Remove fastening console (46)    
57 Support front axle carrier (41) using lifting platform   AR01.10-P-2500-01A
58 Remove engine crossmember with rear engine mount on frame floor assembly   AR22.10-P-1180LF
59 Detach drive shaft from transmission output flange   AR41.10-P-0050LF
60 Remove screw/bolts (47) on front axle carrier (41) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, front axle carrier at front to longitudinal member *BA33.10-P-1001-01P 
61 Remove screw/bolts (48) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear mounting console to longitudinal member *BA33.10-P-1005-01P 
62 Lower engine transmission unit    
63 Install in the reverse order    
64 Fill and bleed ABC system Engine 277, 279 in model 217, 222

Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
69 Conduct engine test run while checking for proper operation of the engine
