Remove/install oil pan - AR01.45-P-7500SZ

ENGINES 275 in MODEL 216, 221

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
IMPORTANT Notes on Active Body Control suspension   AH32.50-P-0001-01N
IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.    
1 Secure vehicle on the vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100SX
2 Deactivate easy entry/exit function Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275 AR54.30-P-1000-02ESX
3 Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position and secure steering wheel with holding device NOTES The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling is detached, otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

4 Mount engine hoist Model 216, 221 except 221 with special protection code Z07  
Model 221 with special-protection package code Z07 AR33.10-P-0105SX
5 Remove the front wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050SX
6 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling IMPORTANT Install engine compartment paneling only after engine test run.  
Vehicles without code (Z07) Top protection AR61.20-P-1105SX
Vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection AR61.20-P-1105SXS
7 Drain engine oil    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Engine oil and filter change   AP18.00-P-0101SZ
8 Remove oil pan bottom section   AR01.45-P-7555L 
9 Disconnect electrical connector (2)    
10 Remove screw/bolts (1) and oil sensor (B40) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA18.40-P-1002-01B 
11 Remove oil pump (4)   AR18.10-P-6020L
12 Remove screw/bolts (3, 5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1010-01B 
13 Remove engine mount from front axle carrier (31)   AR22.10-P-1260SZ
14 Disconnect steering coupling Model 216, 221 AR46.10-P-8000SX
15 Loosen bolted connections for spring control arm on front axle carrier (31) Model 216, 221 except 221 with special protection code Z07
Model 221 with special-protection package code Z07

16 Detach bolted connections for torque struts on front axle carrier (31) Model 216, 221 except 221 with special protection code Z07
Model 221 with special-protection package code Z07

17 Remove screw/bolts (15) and detach hydraulic line (17b) from front axle carrier (31)    
18 Raise engine NOTES Pay attention when lifting out engine that no cables and lines are damaged and that engine does not lean against the bulkhead.  
19 Detach vehicle jack support point (18) from front axle carrier (31)    
20 Detach retaining clamp (9) from front axle carrier (31).    
21 Prop front axle carrier (31) with transmission jack (01) and transmission platform (02) Transmission jack 2.0-7.0 t

22 Remove screw/bolts (1d) from front axle carrier (31) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.10-P-1001-01K 
23 Lower front axle carrier (31) NOTES When lowering, ensure that no cables or lines are damaged.  
24 Remove screw/bolts from oil pan (10) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1001-01B 
25 Detach the oil pan (10) from the crankcase and remove it to rear NOTES Carefully pry off oil pan (10) from crankcase so that the sealing surfaces are not damaged.
IMPORTANT Replace seal on oil pan (10) and ensure reinstallation of ground contact (6).
 
CLEAN Clean     
26 Clean sealing surfaces on oil pan (10) and crankcase NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper as this will damage the sealing surfaces.  
Adhesive and sealant remover *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
27 Install in the reverse order    
28 Perform wheel alignment check Model 216, 221 except 221 with special protection code Z07
Model 221 with special-protection package code Z07

DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

29 Carry out engine test run, checking the engine for proper operation and leaks    
30 Check engine oil level about 5 minutes after switching off the warm engine and correct if necessary
