    NOTES
Observe the Specifications for Operating Fluids and use only approved transmission oils.
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
If automatic transmission has been repaired:

Pour in quantity of transmission oil drained previously plus an additional 0.5 l of transmission oil.
If automatic transmission has not been repaired.
Pour in 6 l of transmission oil.

5 Start engine
6 Connect diagnostic system and check transmission oil temperature
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-D-2000-04SD
    NOTES
The transmission oil level should only be checked at a transmission oil temperature of 45 °C (113 °F). It is essential to observe all of the transmission oil temperatures specified below.
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.

7 Heat up transmission oil to 90 °C (194 °F) After opening oil circuit.
IMPORTANT Leave the automatic transmission at selector lever position "P" and keep the engine speed at 2500 RPM.
IMPORTANT The thermostat of the automatic transmission oil cooler opens at 90 °C (194 °F), and the automatic transmission oil cooler is filled and bled.

8 Allow transmission oil to heat up or cool down to 45 1/2C (113 1/2F). If transmission oil temperature is too low:

Leave the automatic transmission at selector lever position "P" and keep the engine speed at 2500 RPM.
If transmission oil temperature is too high:

Switch off engine.

9 Check transmission oil temperature with engine switched off IMPORTANT The transmission oil temperature must be 45 °C (113 °F).
If transmission oil temperature is not 45 °C (113 °F).

Allow transmission oil to heat up or cool down.

10 Start engine IMPORTANT Leave the automatic transmission at selector lever position "P" and the engine running at idle speed.
  Correct transmission oil level
11 Pump transmission oil into automatic transmission
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Automatic transmission fluids (ATF) (specification 236.15)   BB00.40-P-0236-15A
    NOTES
Observe the Specifications for Operating Fluids and use only approved transmission oils.
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
After replacement of automatic transmission and torque converter

Pour in 4 l of transmission oil.
If torque converter has not been emptied.

Pour in 2 l of transmission oil.

12 Shift through all selector lever positions several times IMPORTANT Apply the service brake, leave the engine running at idle speed and slowly shift through the selector lever positions several times: "P" → "R" → "N" → "D" → "N" → "R" → "P".
13 Move selector lever to position "P" IMPORTANT Leave the engine running at idle speed.
14 Check transmission oil temperature using diagnostic system IMPORTANT The transmission oil temperature must be 45 °C (113 °F).
If transmission oil temperature is not 45 °C (113 °F).

Allow transmission oil to heat up or cool down.

15 Remove adapter (2)

16 Allow constant stream of oil (arrow a) to drain until only a trickling stream of oil (arrow b) escapes. NOTES
Leave the engine running at idle speed and do not exceed the transmission oil temperature. Otherwise too much transmission oil will be drained off, and malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
If the oil jet (arrow a) initially discharged is not constant, but rather a trickling oil jet (arrow b):

Repeat procedure starting with operation step 11.

17 Screw in drain screw (3) IMPORTANT Replace seal.
